Hi everyone, I need to know from anyone out there with an Axiom subwoofer, How many inputs are on the sub? I have ordered my Axion system, which should be here Tuesday. I am trying to find and order all my wires before they come. Now my Reciever only has one Output for the sub, so I am wondering if the sub has one or two? If two, can anyone recommend a wire for me to use? I am not looking for a top of the line wire, but a good one. I have seen some of those Terra Labs wires, at $2,000+ which I think is INSANE!! LOL!
Also, How do I hook up my wires to my speakers? I have Banana Plugs for my Reciever, do Axiom speakers also except Banana plugs? Or something else? Thanks to anyone who could help! Oak

Marc had me hook my sub up with one line into it. I used what he sent me to use. I don't know the brand name. Axiom speakers can take banana plugs, but you can also just use bare wire on the binding posts. I bought the AR brand of banana plug and they work fine. (except for the extra clearance I needed from the wall for my QS8's)

Oak, divide the cost of the Terra Labs connectors by about 100 and use a single coaxial cable to connect to either one of the sub's line-level inputs. Hook up your speakers by sticking the bare end of the wire through the hole in the terminal post and making it finger-tight.

Use the MonsterBass300 Wires. Here is a link to get them fairly cheap. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/cell-tronics/monster.html

I use Kimber Kable 4VS for my other speakers.

Oak,
There are 2 plugins on the back of the Axiom sub. As mentioned before, the single output from your receiver can plug into either of these inputs or you can buy a sub cable with a y-splitter and hence plug the cable into both sub inputs.

If you look around ebay, i picked up an RCA brand copper sub cable, 30 footer, for $25.

Remind me again Chess, why would two be used into the sub, rather than my one?

Chess may be off the board, Jim, so let me point out that there's very little reason to split a single receiver sub output with a Y-connector and then feed both inputs on the sub. Although feeding two voltages into the sub which are then combined in the sub amp gives you "free" voltage, there's seldom a need for this since most receiver sub outputs are able to deliver more than enough voltage with low distortion. Marc certainly gave you the correct advice. Only if the voltage was too low to keep the sub from shutting itself off should both inputs be used if there's only one receiver output.

JohnK is right.
I've used a y-splitter for my sub just because the cable i bought came with one.
The other reason you might use a single input, as opposed to both on the back of a sub, is if you have 2 subwoofers and wanted to distinguish them as right or left out of the processor/receiver. Of course this assumes the media you are playing has a distinguished track for 2 (right and left) subs to make any difference but so far, i haven't heard of any.
Considering the general inability to localize low frequency sounds at closer ranges, i don't even think it would matter.

Thank you very much. I was just curious really. I wasn't doubting the advice from Marc. I never knew about the y-splitter until recently. I'm a follower and a very good listener in this realm of home theater. It seems I learn something new everyday.

I was under the impression that the extra voltage would effectively make the auto-on circuit more sensitive, reducing the likelyhood of the sub shutting off sooner than you would like.

Jason, the last sentence of my reply touched briefly on that point. The extra voltage can't actually increase the sensitivity of the auto on/off circuit designed into the sub, of course, but more voltage at any given setting of the receiver's sub out is more likely to satisfy the sub's requirement to keep it from shutting off. As was mentioned, most receivers can supply more than enough voltage with inaudibly low distortion through their sub outputs. If the sub isn't getting enough voltage, the level control on the receiver should simply be turned up a bit.
