I'm looking for options to get a bunch of CD's for cheap. I know about BMG and Columbia house, but I am looking for some things that are a little more obscure then what the clubs have. The list of stuff I am interested in checking out further comes from a radio show NIN did...the playlist is at the end of the message. Some of these tracks I liked, some I didn't, but the ones I did I would like to check out further. I bored with most of my CD's and haven't bought any new ones in a while, and radio isn't too good in Philly, so it's time. Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here is a surprise - check Amazon. They sell new and used through a variety of vendors. I have gotten six CDs over the last couple of months and they have been in fantastic shape. The prices have been spectacular as well.

Also try half.com. You can find most of this stuff there, used.

I looked at those briefly, but it still looks to be in the 9-10 dollar range...and I assume shipping needs to be added to that. I believe BMG averages out to about $4 a CD with all the free ones you get. Amazon/half might be the best I can do though for some of the more obscure stuff.

I'll second the Amazon Used deal.
I've bought hundreds from there through the years and in all those I think I got one that was scratched. And the guy told me to throw it out and he sent my money right back.
I've found lots there for $3 and $4 apiece.
And you are actually going through Amazon in case anything goes sour.

I hate to chime in here with the fact I once paid nearly $50CDN for a used copy of a CD.

Screaming Blue Messiahs - Bikini Red, with the hits "I Wanna Be a Flintstone" and "I Can Speak American"... most sites didn't even recognize it was pressed on CD and listed only cassette and LP versions.

If I can hijack this thread for a second - anyone remember their first CD purchased?

most were gifts, as I got my first cd player for christmas.

The Pogues' If I Should Fall From Grace With God was my first.

The "new" Red Hot Chili Peppers album Mother's Milk after Hillel Slovak's death was the second. Think of this as the skate-funk-rock version of Back in Black.

YUP.. i remember the first cd and record. this is with my OWN money of course.

the first record i bought was 'KISS ALIVE'. it was in the late 70's, when the whole Kiss Army craze was the big thing. i remember on the cover, ace frehley doing the back-bend, and raising that gibson toward the sky.. i thought that was just the coolest thing EVER.

and my first cd was megadeath's 'Peace Sells, But Who's Buying'. i think it was like 86 or 87. i swear, i think i played that thing soooo much, the laser burned off the 1's and 0's. i ended up trading it to a buddy of mine for his copy of motley crue's 'Theater of Pain'.. i think he got the better end of the deal...?

i had 'Big Lizard in My Backyard' on tape. it was actually given to me by these two guys, that i think were gay, that i met on a bus ride from abilene, tx to memphis, tn. my parents were sending me to stay with my grandparents for the summer, and i was 'old' enough to travel alone(i think i was 14 or 15). anyway, they put me on a bus in abilene, and it was one of the cheap greyhound routes that stopped in EVERY little po-dunk stop along the way. i went to the back of the bus, and met these two guys that got on the bus in california, and had been on it for 3 days. i started talking with them, and quickly realized something was 'different' about them, but at the time, i had no idea what it was. as an adult, i later realized they were gay.. but, anyway, they were pretty cool guys, and let me borrow 'big lizard; to listen to on my walkman, and when we got to memphis, they told me to keep it. they said it was something to remember them by. weird story.. but it worked, cause i have always remembered their names, gene and casper..
