Peter, as RMH and Ashley pointed out, it's necessary to set the bass management for SACDs in the player rather than the receiver. This is because the bass management is done in the digital rather than analog realm, so it has to be done in the player before it does the digital to analog conversion. Your player has settings in the initial setup menu for setting speaker sizes and distances and the speakers should be set "small" so that the lowest bass is directed to the sub output.

alright, here we go. all of this is in the initial setting menu, digital audio out sub-menu, Digital out:ON, options sub-menu, SACD playback: Multi-ch area, Speaker sub-menu, Audio output mode: 5.1 channel, speaker installation: make sure the SW is on
