Jac(divot), the 5/7 channel stereo mode isn't really intended to be used on 5.1(or 6.1; there aren't any 7.1s)DVDs. The 5/7 simply duplicates the left front channel in the left side surround and back surround, and likewise for the right side speakers; no surround effects are available. Since you have a 7.1 speaker setup, you can apply DPLIIx to the DVDs so that the side surround channel information is separated and spread over both the side and back surround speakers. You can also apply DPLIIx to CDs and other 2 channel material to extract ambience present in the 2 channels and send it to the surround speakers where it belongs.
