 Paradigm Monitor vs. Studio -- sonic differences

So... one of my friends is out auditioning Paradigm speakers in parallel with a bunch of us pushing him towards Axioms. Yesterday was the day of revelation... he was about to buy some Monitor 5's and made the mistake of listening to Studio 40s. Felt the Studio 40s sounded a lot better. I have not had a chance to "interrogate" him re: exactly what he preferred though.
For anyone who has heard both Monitor and Studio speakers what did you hear different ? The Monitors seem to have a fairly prominent 3-5KHz dip, much more so than M3 for example. I imagine that is what he is hearing but would appreciate any opinions.

3 dB dip from 2-9 KHz.
