I want to thank you guys for making me aware of the testmy.net site. It prompted me to poke around at my home connection, which was allegedly 1.5M (Qwerst). After several technical calls, I found out a couple things.

1. Qwest sucks. Still.
2. My dsl provider is cool
3. I have to have dsl filters on all the phone outlets in my house, whether there is a phone connected to them or not. Go figure. Anyway, I fixed my connection and went from ~578 to 1.2. Yippee.

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Well, given that I was still probably checking email, had chat open, etc, not bad! 1.5-3.0 DSL. Faster than it was before i upgraded. Thank god for that, I was just able to d/l Knoppix 3.8.2 (750 MB, or thereabouts) in about an hour, average speed 190kb/sec. Much better than I hoped or expected. Now returning to Tivo recovery... Wow, 16 GB copied already!

What? Uh... they're just a low pass filter... that's odd... anyone have a reason for this?

No reason, but it just doesn't work if they're not there. I've spent enough time troubleshooting at various clients to know that one...

Your connection is: 1167 Kbps (about 1.2 Mbps)
You downloaded at: 142 kB/s
Your TRuSPEED: 1249 Kbps :: 152 kB/s (7% overhead factored)
Bottom Line: You are running: 21 times faster than 56K and can download 1 megabyte in 7.21 second(s)

Not too shabby. I hate using the internet at my parents. Average connection speed around 30k. Oy!

Ken, I only need to put a filter on the lines that have a phone in them. But just for fun, I'll locate and filter the one or two unused jacks and see if that improves things any.

It varies wildly. When I first got my DSL, I didn't have to use filters at all. Then I did...

Guys, I know. It did not make sense to me either. But that change made an immediate and noticable difference according the the testmy.net measurements and my observations.
