So... after spending a couple of months with M2 mains in a 13x23 room which, despite my best efforts, remains my primary music room, I gave in and bought some M3s for the bedroom system.

Why ? 'Cause that frees up the M60s for the basement. Better yet, with the investment of a bit of wire I get to play with 7.1. I just need to get off my butt and download the HK630 upgrade for Dolby PLIIx...

Anyways, I can't imagine how anyone could respond to this other than "my condolences, I know a good de-programmer" but there it is.

No way. I'm right out of free time. The M3s are a labor-saving device so I don't have to keep running upstairs to listen to the M60s

M3s received and set up. Sitting on top of the M60s for now.

They sound great as expected except one speaker seems to have a buzz in the woofer. This was the speaker in the heavily abused box (the other speaker came in a merely abused box). I have pinged tech support for advice.

Will make sure all the allen bolts are tight around the speaker if I can find the right wrench... any recommendations for tightness ? I was just going to make sure nothing was loose and wait for Axiom advice before going any tighter...

Before anyone asks :

1. Yes I have pics but can't find the card reader for uploading to the PC.

2. No I will not run up and down the stairs again. Well, guess I have to do it twice more to get the M60s downstairs. Bleah.

OK, so maybe I have a *bit* more sympathy for the girls now...

True.... down is easier than up, but these are heading for the HT not the dump so I think I'll carry them down instead...

EDIT -- tightening up the woofer bolts didn't help, so I loosened them off again. They take a 4mm allen key for anyone else so inclined.

I'm going to stop poking at them and just listen to 'em for a while.

Don't you remember anything from your childhood?
Do NOT Run down the stairs while carrying those M60s. You could put an Eye Out!
Find anything out about the Bonked M3?

Good news. The replacement M3 showed up today (Monday was a holiday up here) so problem solved. We tracked the noise down to the woofer but Axiom sent me a new M3 anyways (thanks !!).

I originally set the speakers up about a foot from the back wall but there was too much bass. They are now almost two feet from the wall and sounding great.

Review note -- a pair of M3s sounds much richer than a single M3 -- more so than I expected. The M3s really are nice speakers. Room size is roughly 13x18 and they play as loudly as I would want. The M3s are in a bedroom but the system is basically to provide music for the second floor of the house since the main system is two floors down in the basement.

M60s are downstairs, replacing the M2s in the main system. It's real nice to be able to listen to music without a sub downstairs (the M2s needed a sub). Even with the HK 630 handling crossover duties there seems to be a difference in the imaging when running the M60s in Small. I could run them in Large and slot the sub in where the M60s roll off but for music the M60s have all the bass depth and volume I want without assistance.

... and just for amusement, Noreen called me at lunchtime today. Purolator had just called her to complain that I hadn't picked up my M3s (yes, the same M3s I was listening to this morning).

Good for a laugh...
