Hello all...
Long time lurker... first post.

So my wife and I are moving and I get a new bonus room. It will be prewired 7.1... planning on M80 b/c large room, q-8 all around, mitsubishi porjector and big screen.... and here is the question....

Do I place the center 150 on top of the screen or underneath? I have to decide for the prewire soon. Ihave seen both done but have listened to only speakers underneath.

Any comments?

Thanks,

Ben

Either. On top angle down toward listener. On bottom - up.

Ben, welcome(can't figure how you came up with that boardname). Since you've lurked a bit you might anticipate that my comment is that since you'll be using a screen with room at the bottom, it's the ideal situation to use a vertical center(M22, M60, M80)instead of a horizontal configuration.

What about 2 VP-150s, one top and one bottom like Amie is using? I have given a lot of thought about that since, in many cases, the center channel does "most" of the work.

You might ask her about the situation.

You could always get an acoustical transparent screen, and place the center directly behind the screen… I have my vp150 below my screen, angled up, and it works just fine, very good definition…

Here's one way to think about it... if your mains are below the centerline of the screen put the center above it, and if the mains are above the centerline of the screen put the center below it.

I find that helps to make the overall sound seem to come from the center of the screen...

Thanks for all of the replies! I am not sure a can configure the room to accomodate a tower as the center channel for it would involve some sheetrock work to get a cubbie into the wall. But nevertheless a great idea that I will ponder. I am equally intrigued by the dual center channel idea. I may go down that route as well

Has anyone ever mounted/positioned a tower horizontally? Any acoustical effects or would everything be the same?

Thanks,

Ben

JohnK, aren't you assuming that he would have enough room from the floor to the bottom of the screen to accomodate that request? Rule of thumb is that the bottom 1/3 of the screen should be below eye level in the seated position. I don't see how you would be able to use an M60 or 80 for a center, possibly a M22 if there is room. Just my front projection 2 cents

Neb,

Nickbuol, another Axiom member I believe has his center mounted above his Carada screen. Personally, I prefer to have the 150 mounted below the screen between the two mains. Actually my center is slightly set back from my mains to create a slight curve, and improve the sound stage. If you notice the centers have a curved top if you look at the pictures. You can flip the 150 over, just make sure you flip the grill over also so the words AXIOM are right side up. This will help direct the sound up, if your going to have stadium seating.

Or for those of us that go topless... flip the tweeters so they read correctly!
