Ok, I have decided to get the Epic 60 500 watt set of Axioms but I also need to purchase a new receiver to run these baby's. If some of you experts on this board can give me a little guidance in this I would greatly appreciate it. I have looked at several different manufacturers like NAD, Marants, Yamahaa, and Harmon Kardon but I really dont know what or who to believe when talking to people about rceivers. I have around $1200.00 to spend on this but if its worth it I can come up with a little more.

Please guide me...

Either of these will work well.

Or even this http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=779138/search=harman%2520kardon%2520receivers

These are for the top end of your budget, however there are others that are less expensive that will also work well.
Personally I woud stick with H/K or Denon.

I think you should really consider Rotel, I have 3 rotel gears in a stereo setup and love them with my Axiom M60s! A good startin point is Rotel Website

Check it out, even though a little bit over your price range. Rotel is considered an entry level of high end electronics, a step above best consumer electronics.

You might consider a Denon 2805 for its features and an amp like Outlaw Audio 755 for 5.1 or 770 for 7.1. The Denon can be bought refurbed on Ubid and other sites. My refurbed 3805 looks and acts new. I am on the fence for which amp I am going for.

I like my Denon 2805, but you really have lots of choices. HK, Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha, etc are all good brands. If you go with seperates: Rotel, Outlaw, etc. are good choices.

moore- if you are starting out with a $1200 budget, you are already WAY ahead of the curve. most guys are strugling to have a budget of $600-$700. with that kind of cash avail, you have LOTS of options.

you can go with separates or get the 'top of the line' AV receivers from the big names(H/K, Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, etc). but, dont feel like you have to spend the $1200 to get a great receiver. there are plenty of awesome options that are much cheaper.

so, i would look at what you want the receiver to do, and what kind of inputs you are gonna have, and base your decision from that. i mean, does it make sense to buy a $1200 receiver, if you are only gonna use $800 bucks worth of its capabilities. i would buy the $800 receiver, and use the $400 toward something else..

just an idea..

Thanks for all of your suggestions guys...my problem is that I dont know what I want to do. I guess what would help me is if you guys were in my position what would you do? Top of the line receiver or seperates? I just know I want a setup that I would be proud of. I feel like I am making strides in that direction with my decision to get the Axioms but I am totally lost on the receivers.

Sorry for being such a newbie...

Marantz, Yamaha and Harman/Kardon. You spelled NAD right though!

Honestly you really can't go wrong with any of those manufacturers, just find one with the connectivity you want (count the number of coaxial digital/optical digital inputs, 6 channel analog if you want SACD, component ins and outs, etc), and the features you want.

You'd also have the choice of going with separates if so inclined.

Ask 100 people what you should use for amplification, 98 of them will suggest what they own and 2 disgruntled owners will suggest anything but what they own.

I have been kind of leaning to the Marantz SR8400 solely based on a good friend of mine that really loves Marantz. Would this be a good choice?
