I came home from work this morning only to have my teenage son announce to me that the car he was driving around, looking for trouble in, "broke down" last night. Upon further questioning, I discovered that it did not break down, he admitted to me that he was in the process of making a U-turn near the tracks, came upon a large "curb," which he proceeded to use as a wrecking bar on the under carriage of the car. So far, I know that the oil pan is gone and the steering linkage is probably trashed. It is not yet known what further damage has been done and if the car is salvageable. Isn't it wonderful being a father?

Feel blessed you do not have a teenage daughter...

At least it was only a car that was damaged...

WOW, i cant wait for those days. NOT!!!

i remembered when i totalled my mom's Ford LTD Landau when i was 14. i didnt even have a license yet, and was sneaking my moms car out to 'cruise the drag'. that car was sooo mint, and i wrapped it around a pecan tree. my dad beat the hell out of me, and i was pretty much grounded for the whole summer.. but, i remember feeling the MOST horrible about how my mom felt towards me. i was no longer her obedient young son.. in her eyes, i had become the lying, dishonest, untrustworthy punk kid that lived in her home. not that she didnt still love me, but that event changed my relationship with my parents forever.

we laugh about it now, but i know it hurt my parents, and especially my mom, pretty deep.. hopefully your son will see this and realize there is a lot more hurt here than just a car... i know i did..

whatfurrer- and to add to what you said.. i was once told by someone, and i cant remeber who..? when my wife was pregnant, i had said i wished we could have a little girl. someone told me, "be careful what you wish. if you have a little boy, all you have to worry about is one penis.. if you have a little girl, you have to worry about them ALL".

someone was giving me good advice

Good point WhatFurrer.

I often think back to my father, and wonder how the hell he raised 5 children. Growing up he had a very unique sports car called a Sunbeam Tiger. It was a car about the size of a MGB with a 289 V8. The thing would flat out HAUL ASS. Alas, I never got to drive it, two of my older brothers took care of that.
On four different occasions while the parents were out of town, they had decided to take it out and impress their friends (with keys they had made on the sly). Each time the car came back wrecked. The last time, dad was so upset he just sold the thing. Being the youngest, I RARELY got to drive mom or dads cars. Go figure.

Yep! Two sons aged 12 & 10, and now a 1yr old daughter. So about to hit the teenage years with the boys, but will still have the daughter to look forward to in the future.

Kind of hoping the boys stick around long enough to ward off potential suitors for their sister, but the age gap may be too large to do any good!

Oh well...

Well. I'm going to have one of each -- just found out the 'bump' is a girl -- so I'm doomed both ways.

Great news Peter!
Now you can quit while you are ahead (or behind).
Friend's of mine kept having girls (they stopped trying for a boy after the 3rd girl)
