I have an old onkyo receiver. When I play dvds I can adjust the dvd palyer to have the center/dialogue as high as I need. But with videos, and the receiver on dolby movie or some such setting I seem to have no control over how loud the speakers are. The dialogue is almost lost unless I turn the volume up and then crashes or music blast me away (almost Maxell ad ferocity).

Part of the problem is that I am using an M2 as my center with M22s for front left and right. The M2 is harder to drive. The Onkyo receiver seems to not have individual speaker adjustment for volume, but only for distance away.

Anyone have a suggestion? I could set it on stereo - but there will be no surround then, obviously. Is there a resistor one can put in between the M22s and the receiver without degrading the sound? Anyone familiar with the Onkyo TX-SR501? I could try all the surround settings but would rather get some info/advice before plodding through all that.

Thanks

Page 27 of the manual (at least the one I just downloaded from Onkyo) tells you how to adjust speaker volumes using the remote control and built-in test tones. Looks pretty straightforward; we should be able to walk you through later this evening.

We don't need no steenkin resistors !

Note that there are both temporary and permanent settings. You want the permanent settings on page 27, not the temporary settings on (I think) pp33.

Very nice bridgman. Downloading and scanning the manual for a fellow Axiomite.

Who knew? What, you mean I should read the directions?

Serves me right for being in the habit of just pushing buttons and figuring it out from there. I hardly ever read directions for something I think I know how to run already!

With the help of bridgman and page 27 it was fairly easy! The buttons on the receiver would not allow me to do it - I had to use the remote. And read the directions...

Allen's Axiom clearly states... "when all else fails, read the manual".

Glad you found the settings. Hope it helps...
