Hi again,

Thanks. Should I decide to play a few speakers at once (this may occur 5-10% of the time) then it would be better to get one that has internal impedance-limiting circuitry?

Matt:

It depends on how stable the amplifier is in the receiver you are using and on the impedance of the speakers you are using in the other zones. If you use 8-ohm speakers in each zone, then running two pairs of 8-ohm speakers together puts a 4-ohm load on your receiver, which only a few brands will drive without overheating or shutting down. The AV receiver brands that will drive 4-ohm loads without problems are: Denon, NAD, Sherwood Newcastle, Rotel and B&K. That's it.

If you run three pairs of speakers in different zones together, then you absolutely must get a switch-box with impedance limiting circuitry. You'd also need the latter if the speakers in the other zones are rated at 6 ohms rather than 8 ohms.
