1. Is there anyway you can listen to these speakers before you buy them ? I am looking at the Epic 50 HT System.

2. How easy or difficult is it to set up ? I am planning to replace a HTIB.

3. Any recommended recievers ? I am leaning towards Onkyo and HK.

from_michigan, welcome to the forum!
1. Not unless there is someone in your neck of the woods that has an Axiom setup and is willing to let you come over and listen. Most Axiom owners are more than willing to show them off so that would not be a problem. Asside from that, Axiom offers the 30 day trial. If you don't like, just return them. The only cost will be the return shipping.
2. I replaced my sony HTIB system with Axiom's Epic 80 and Denon's 3910 and 3805. By far the most difficult thing was learning all the new features. The actual setup was not that difficult. But be warned, it's quite tempting to "play" with your new system...
3. While I can't help you here, I believe many Axiom owners with these receivers will be offering there advice. Both look to be great choices. Good luck!

Hello, "From", and welcome!

You may want to check this thread to see if there are any Axiom users in your area who could do a demo for you. If there's no one close, you may want to email Amie (amie@axiomaudio.com ) to see if there's someone closer that's not on the list.

Home Theater systems are not difficult to set up, especially when you have nice, helpful people (like me) and smart people (like anyone here BUT me) to help!

Both Onkyo and H/K receivers have good reputations here; Denon does as well!

I feel pretty confident that if you're replacing a HTIB, even a $4,000 one, you're going to be taking a big step up here in terms of sound quality!

you would need to go to this thread here to find someone in your area that would let you come audition their system.. or get hold of amie, and maybe she could help you find someone.

setting up an HT system can be as easy or hard as you wanna make it. in general, you are looking at maybe having to mount the surrounds(or get stands if you dont want to mount), then run some speaker wire, and then hook-up all the interconnectors from the dvd and tv to the receiver, and you are done. HTIB's stink!! ANY system you buy from axiom will be better.!!

receivers are simply by choice/price/features/ease of use. i love my onkyo 701, others love their H/K's, and even more love their denons. they will ALL pretty much perform well. just find one in your price range, with the features you want, and buy it.

good luck with your purchases, and welcome to the forum!!

Gotta put a plug in for Pioneer Elite receivers too. Many people don't care for the regular Pioneer line, so they steer away from Pioneer altogether. I have had very good success with Pioneer, and my Pioneer Elite receiver does everything I want it to.

Here is a paraphrase from a good comment I got on this forum when asking about receivers...

If you are spending around $700+ on a receiver, you should get good quality and good features from just about any brand. It just comes down to what features and extras you want, or in some cases, even the looks or remote control are deciding factors. You really should be fine with just about any good receiver brand.

Welcome! I Have the same "Title"! I am also From Michigan. Sometimes I wish I'd stayed there!!

Question #1-This question is well answered in the replies above, but it's interesting to note the recient interest in the more "Pleasant" line of Axiom speakers. Todays' forums are well stocked with individuals who have, or are considering, speakers with a warmer less foreward presentation-not much different, just a little bit. All axioms sound just about the same, I'm told.

Question #2-easy-not so easy-depends. But always a lot of fun!

Question #3-I've had real good luck with Onkyo. Getting another one soon for a larger listening area. I cast a positive vote for Onkyo.

Happy Hunting!

Also From Michigan
Rich

I'll also say nice things for Onkyo - my 702 sounds and operates wonderfully!

I'm also a fan of Denon models. Any of the receivers named in this thread will be good.

Anything else I would add (re: setup and speakers) would be redundant of those helpful, friendly souls above!
