Hi there. I'm now on the process of getting a new sub. I am moving now to the basement and I need your tips on which sub to get. I am looking at axiom EP500, SVS 20-39 pci (320 watts), or 20-39- pc plus (525 watts).
My basement is 15 x 18 (around 350 sqft 8 ft height).
Do I really need a 500 watt subs or can just settle with 300 watt sub. I've heard the SVS 20-39pci and it was fun. It was at a media room at the second floor and just wondering if I wiil get the same subs quality if I'll have it on the basement (concrete with 9 pound underlay and 50 ounce carpet on top).
Your advice is mostly appreciated.
BTW, I Have HK 335, M60tis, 4 Qs8s and VP150.
Cheers,

This is just my opinion and I am sure many will disagree with me but I find RMS watt ratings completely unimportant. More important is peak wattage. You may find amps with 350 RMS watts but only 500 peak watts or you may find 200 RMS with 800 peak. The latter will deliver cleaner power and less distortion given the same class of amp. Peak wattage is abetter number but still not the most important one. In my opinion the most important numbers of a sub are max db and low frequency as these will tell you more about the sound you will be getting. The most important numbers for me in an amp are THD% and high current. Lots of power is nice but no good if its not clean. Once again this is just my opinion. Hope this helps.

A few thoughts :
The EP500 is better than the 350 in two ways -- one is that it has more power, but the other is that it also plays deeper, more like the SVS. The EP500 looks to have a flatter frequency response than even the 20-39PC+ but is probably more like a PCI in its ability to fill a much larger room.
Truth is that the pci would be fine for your room. It's a great sub and probably the best bang for the buck in the industry.
If you spend more $$, SVS and Axiom offer different things for your $$. The EP500 will give you flatter and better response in the lowest bass (the SVSs roll off a bit at the lower frequencies); the PC+ will probably play louder and/or handle a bigger room if you move in the future.
If you don't want to choose, there is the EP600 and the PC-Ultra, but you pay for the privilege
For your room the EP500 is probably the best, and the pci is the best for the $$.

That is not a terribly big room; I really think you would be very well served by something even in the class of an EP350, Hsu VTF-3 or SVS PB12-ISD. I have that SVS in a much bigger room, and think it is wonderful. I can't imagine you'd need more than the 20-39 pci. You can buy a lot of music, video or other equipment for that extra $.

Generic advice alert: IMHO it's hard to have too much sub, you can always turn it down. I've been in the position of being disappointed and wanting of a more powerful sub. So, if you have the money, err on the side of too much. Of course if the budget is limited, less than $800 or so, the picture changes. For $600 - 800, you can get damn good subwoofers.
