Hello Everyone!

Is anyone here using an Onkyo TX-NR 801 to power the M80's? I've heard Onkyo might have a problem with stability trying to power the M80's which is 4ohms. I'd like to get the 80's but if there's an issue I know the M60"s are 8ohms and they'd work for sure. Thanks in Advance

Hi, My room size is 14 x 22 x 10.5 vaulted ceiling. My systems is in a corner so our listening area is about 12 -14ft from the center speaker. Mixed bag on what we listen to. My concern right now is this 4ohm issue using an onkyo a/v. Thanks

I am currently running an Onkyo 602 powering my M50s.

While I had an Onkyo running my previous 5.1 system(and the stereo before that)I did look for reviews of Onkyo products before the last upgrade to 7.1 in a larger room. I found a review of an Onkyo 601 two years ago in Audioholics where they did a test using M80s with no problem at all.

Oh thanx; wid

Yeah........that's the one

i got the 701 pushing 60's, and i have no clue how someone could need more!!

seriously, the 701 and 801 both push 100WPC, and it can really crank the 60's. i know that review used a 601 to push the 80's, but it has been recommended by Alan(the guru), that you might wanna use a receiver that can push the 4ohms without as much strain. the onkyos are infamous for getting hot when pushed hard, and i can vouch for that. watching star wars for 3 hours with it cranked can really heat mine up. its not a prob with good ventilation, but i asume it could get even worse pushing the 80's. so, if you already have the 801, it might be wise just to go with the 60's to avoid any probs. but to be honest, unless you are really into blowing your eardrums, and the neighbors down the block, you will NOT be disappointed with the 60's.

if you must have the 80's, i have heard that denon's and H/K's would be best for the 4ohm load.

Hey Wid, thanks for the link to the article. I have a Onkyo sr600 and after reading the article, I reset my setup to that of the article and the sound was a lot better. Its also good to know the sr600/601 can drive the m80s.

Chris.
