My 10+ old onkyo finally gave out and I went out and picked up a new receiver for my 5.1 axiom setup (m80's vp150 qs8). I got a Denon 4308ci that was a floor model (but not molested on the shelf) for 2200. With it I will get the free software upgrades that add a few things to it LINK . I am just wondering if I should have got one of the onkyos...like the 906. The only thing I can really see is 5 more watts, thx2 cert, and the only big difference I see if the vid processing chip. I will run my vid through the receiver but really only to get the OSD. I have a 720P tv and watch DRTV hd, and BR or reg DVD's on my playstation 3. Do I really need a better vid chip?? Also I know the denon has wifi but I can run a cat5 easy enough if I had too. Also one of the things the denon adds with for free is the ability for you to do some basic controls on other HDMI devices. This would help me with getting down to just one DRTV DVR remote with out having to toggle switches and hit certain buttons. Big on the WAF lol

So did I make a good buy...I always am plagued with buyers remorse lol

If you feel the better video processor of the 906 isn't necessary then you got a good deal. The 4308 is a proven performer and the GUI is a very nice thing to have along with the wi-fi, one less wire to run, and the new features, you should feel very happy to have bought a great product for an excellent price. \:\) I wouldn't put too much into the THX certification, I am quite certain if Denon wanted to spend the money for THX certification on their models other than the 5300 series, they would easily attain the same certifications.

I am coming from a 10yr old onkyo with 80w and no vid processing...I was lucky if I had enough dig audio inputs lol. So I am totally fine with the picture I get on my TV direct from the drtv box and ps3...so I don't hold much wight in the vid processing...but im also the type of person that if it was such bad azz chip and did so many cool things for the same price, I might feel different. But I did like not having to get my lazy butt in the attic to run a cat5. And I kinda felt the same on the THX thing...I never had it so I good with out it I guess. Unless it just made a huge difference.

I'd say you made a good choice. The Denon 4000 range is much closer to the Integra line than the Onkyo. It is near the flagship AVR product as the 5000 range is well into the separates price range. If I was you, I would not give it two second thought. I'm looking at the 3000 line and that gives me some pause as compared to the Onkyo 876, and Integra 7.9. But the Denon 4000's are great equipment. And the video is very good, just perhaps not as great as the Silicone Optix. But if you have a good original signal (BluRay etc) then you won't need to scale up the signal so no problems. Enjoy.

But...if you change you mind, I'll take that 4308 off your hands for...a few mardi gras beads? I'm sure you dont' have any of those.
