Someone tell me why I shouldn't get an Emotiva UPA-5.
Right now I have: LG 47SL90 Yamaha RX-V663 Panasonic DMP-BD55 Axiom Audio M22s, VP100, QS8s Velodyne SMS-1 Outlaw Audio LFM-1 PLUS
The other upgrade path that I am considering is a Denon 790/890 if I can find a good deal.
What do you guys think?

If ya want it, buy it. That's good enough reason in my book.

While I generally agree with Rick’s statement I would ask what is it you are looking for in the upgrade since your looking at either an amp or receivers?

Well I think my system could benefit from the audessy processing the Denons have. I have also heard that the Denon amps have a warm sound to them and I think that might complement the bright sound of the axioms. Generally, I'm happy with my toys but I suspect the Yamaha is the weak point.

Do you have any major electronics stores in your area. When I bought my Onkyo awhile back I had a 30 day return window. You might benefit if you can purchase a receiver with the features/power you want and try it out. I can’t think of any better way to determine if that will improve your SQ by upgrading your Yamaha. Even if you do chose to upgrade you could always return what you bought and get something else either from the same place or from the internet. I recently went through 3 HDTVs until I got the one I liked.
Otherwise what besides the “brightness” of the speakers (which I don’t see Audyssey changing much unless it’s room induced and then YAPO should have helped) are you looking to change? IMO Denon sounds no different than other digital amp based receivers I’ve heard.

Denon's don't have 'warm power'... just more power than their specs usually claim. Therefor they power speakers better in the higher volume ranges than other recievers that often times exaggerate how much power they actually produce.
I know this because I had a Sony reciever years ago that claimed it was 120 watts x 5. Then I bought my Denon that claimed it was 125 x 7. Using my Cerwin Vega floor speakers it was a very easy win by Denon once the volume went up, up and away.
I had kinda figured as much as the Denon weighed more than twice what the Sony did.

Well I got to setup and tweak my friend's new system this past weekend.
LG 55LH90 Denon 2310ci SVSound SBS-01 SCS-01 & SSS-01 SVSound PC12-NSD Oppo 981HD
I have to admit that this is a surprisingly good sounding system. I don't think the speakers are quite as sensitive as my Axioms but it does make me very curious about their M-series book shelf speakers.
I also really wish Axiom would make some M33s. I'm betting they would sound really nice.

They do. They're called M50s. Not as nice as M3s.

I vote for an M23 to be built. Is that the only combo they have yet to try?

I would bet bucks that it's been tried at the factory. From what I know, they build prototypes all the time in different configurations.
