Beginning the hunt for a new TV. Purchase will likely be mid october, I'm currently leaning toward a panasonic plasma. Don't care for 3D, don't really care for network connectivity either as I have plenty of network options between PS3, xbox360, and denon 3808. I want the best picture and biggest screen possible.

I'm looking at the Panasonic Vierra TC-P60S30 60-Inch as a possibility. Amazon has it for a little more than $1300. I'd like a 65" TV but I don't think Panny's current models have a non-3D 65" TV.

The best deal I have seen on 65" is for the VIERA TC-P65ST30 65-Inch but it is about $2150 from amazon. I'd much rather buy a 65" TV that was a little cheaper with no 3D or network features...

Does anyone have any recommendations besides Panasonic plasmas? Any other input is appreciated.

Thanks.

If you want to stick with plasmas especially in that size range and up, you have basically three options; Panasonic, of course, and there is also Samsung and LG. Of all these, the one's that I have seen that are, to me, the overall best value and somewhat underestimated are the models from LG. I don't think you will find any LCDs especially the LED versions in that size for anywhere near the prices you have mentioned. Only the more expensive LEDs especially the "local dimming" versions can come anywhere near the black levels of the Plasmas anyway.

I found this website and based my purchase off their reviews. I am very pleased with my plasma TV PN50C7000! They reviewed several 59"+ TV's that look to be really good! I would go with the Samsung PN64D7000 if I were to buy another one.

Have fun with the research!

David, it appears that you want to keep it under $2000. If so, the recommendation would be to forget the 65" and go with the good buy on the 60" Panasonic that you linked. There isn't much difference in size and about $1300 is a great price.

As Casey pointed out, Samsung and LG also do plasma; but LG doesn't have a 65" and Samsung would be over your budget. So, there doesn't appear to be a set that would fit the price/size parameters that you were hoping to find.

Thanks for the comments all. I'll let everyone know what I end up with in the coming month or two.

Got the Panasonic 55" VT30 a few months ago. LOVE it. I didn't want 3D but unfortunately, there was no option for the Black Pro 2 w/o 3D.

The Samsung D8000 is also nice but that's more than $2K. I got a great deal using Panasonic's Employee Purchase Program. I don't work for Panny and not sure why my company was partnered but the link worked and I was able to buy it at a great discount w/ free shipping.

Yeah, I considered the 65" but it was too $$$. And I only waited for the VT30 because I couldn't find a Kuro.
