I don't have a projector screen and never will. I actually don't even have a TV for the wall yet. But I have bought the VP180 and need to get it setup. I just don't have a stand for it.
I don't like the idea of bolting it to the wall with some bracket. I also happen to have a mid sized tower PC that I put my AMD graphics card inside of to play games in this room.
I was thinking to making a stand for the center speaker that can also fit inside it this PC to get it out of the way. But not sure it it would just look out of place. So it might be better to get something longer like a sideboard that has some draws in the front that can store the acumilating crap that seems to find its way into my life. Then I could just put the HTPC and the speaker ontop of that and have some needed storage. But what about the TV. I have never seen a good looking TV stand that I like yet. So I spin in circles
I keep thinking that a rectangular box behind the screen/TV (so holding screen/TV out from the wall 10" or so) attached to the wall would be a great place for storage. Invisible normally, but pretty big inside. Long slide-out drawers on each side for DVDs etc.. so everything you're looking for is fairly close to eye level.
Make it a foot deep and you could put the PC in the middle somewhere.
For VP180 the picture that keeps popping into my head is wooden brackets that come out from the wall far enough to hold the VP180, then angle back towards the wall down to the floor so you've got real support but don't have vertical legs to trip over.

Heres an inspiration pic for you. Just add cooling and change the middle section to a grille for your tower. Build a platform for the TV on top (or better yet a false wall bolted to the lower cabinet for your TV to mount to.). Would be a sweet focal point in your room.
A good friend needed one for his TV and we got this made in a weekend. We tweaked it and stained it darker, but it turned out sweet. We found a similar product at Sears at $1600 at the time. Wish I had pics.
There are several parts to building your own. Yes I have the ability, but there is also that contraint of Time.
I took a trip out to some of the local stores, like the Brick and Leon's. Both had stuff that I could consider, but the cost vs quality gives me some reason to want to make my own. That said there were a few that looks OK and didn't cost all that much, and would work. So am I better off to have one that is made so I can enjoy my system, or to spend that time making my own that will function no better (but built well) for the same cost?
I can get a decent made one from Ikea that actually costs far less than what I can make the something of similar design for.
Well, I did go around to one of the higher end audio stores that happened to have moved to a new location and they have some of their stands that don't fit the new layout that are selling them for a good price. Perhaps I should get one of them for my audio equipment end.
I hear ya matt. Building something like serenity suggested would take me at least 4 full weekends with the equipment I have on hand. So much time is wasted waiting for glue , stain and urethane to dry. I did manage to make a upright stand out of mdf in a day and half but I only painted and clear coated it and it was sunny and hot and everything cured really fast. Sometimes I just like the instant gratification that comes with slappin down that CC so I can get on with enjoying other things. Tough decision until you find something you really feel fits the bill.Have you had a look at sears online some selection there.

I made a stand for my VP180 a few months ago. cost about $25 was simple to do took mabe 45 mins and the stain was the longest. It's not a permanent one but, it is sturdy enough I could keep it. It is 16" high in the front and 13" in the rear and about 21" wide. Wide enough for the feet to rest. I have pics IM me and I will send them
