I am building a 7.2.4 in my living room (15*18*10) and have owned plenty of axiom speakers in the past. I will be using some paradigm millennia 200's for the l/r and millennia 20 for the center for the time being. The surrounds on the wall will be the on-wall M-3's (in white/gloss white). I believe the current "standard" is to timbre match the 4 in-ceilings with the M-3's.

My worry is that the M-3 in-ceilings are a new offering and I feel a little more comfortable at this time going with a company that has made in-ceilings for years. So any feedback on the M-3 in-ceilings which may want me to change my mind?

FYI the system will include two SVS SB-1000 subs (gloss white) and be powered by a denon 7200 or the anthem 1120 with a rotel 1095 powering the L/C/R and the two channels the receiver will need to get to 11 speakers from 9.

Eventually I will put in either an axiom, paradigm or B&W l/c/r (also in white/gloss white).

Thanks.

I don't think that any company had been really doing in ceiling timbre matching speakers for Atmos home theater for years. Perhaps if you went with a speaker company that has been making speakers for theaters.

Anthem: AVM60, Fosi DAC-Q5
Axiom: ADA1500, LFR1100 Actiive, QS8, EP500, M3, M3comp, M5

Sorry, let me rephrase the question. Given peoples view of the performance and build quality of the m-3 in-ceiling am I better off purchasing the axiom in-ceiling speakers to timber match (even though it is version 1 of the speaker) or go for a company that has built in-ceiling speakers for many years and lose on the timber matching? I would hope the ARC, etc. could help on the timber matching

Actually, the in-ceiling M3 is more of a version 2 of the speaker.... Ok, maybe a V1.5

The current in-ceiling M3 has a tilt-able tweeter, where the first go around didn't. So you can aim the tweeter towards the listening area.

I went with on-wall M3s for surrounds, and then just mounted 4 of those on the ceiling as well. I like the clean look of the in-ceiling versions, but I didn't want to put 4 good sized holes into my soundproofed ceiling where the master bedroom is directly above, so I went this route because I too believe that timbre matching is important.

I wouldn't be too worried about the in-ceiling M3. Axiom has been known to spend a lot of time fine-tuning to get things "just right." Heck, look at the Axiom Air. It was about 16 months ago when I visited the Axiom factory and was doing some blind A/B tests while I was there to give them feedback on what I was hearing. One of the "speakers" was a prototype configuration of their current speaker layout for the Air... It wasn't their first prototype version, and it was far from the last version. It sounded great when listened to, but wasn't quite up to par when A/B compared and you could hear what the target sound was (just a different speaker cabinet configuration).

Axiom painstakingly works to get the speaker sounding "just right" both in an anechoic chamber, and in a listening room.

However, all 3 brands you mention make good products, and if you are going with an Anthem product to send sound to those speakers, ARC is really amazing. Light years ahead of other room correction like Audyssey (and I like Audyssey). ARC should be able to make it pretty close. Audyssey and other similar products probably not so much.

Nick,

So happy that you were able to reply. I could clearly see the similarities in our set up from reading a number of your other posts in other threads. Fortunately my living room sheetrock ceiling is about a foot drop down from the concrete slab 2nd floor of my house so cutting holes is fine and increases the WAF.

I must have missed their earlier in-ceiling offering. I went with a full axiom set up (lr/master bed/den) in my last house 2010/2011 and don't believe they were out then.

Many thanks.
