dont get me wrong, i love my m60's, im just wondering if possibly my audigy 2zs is to blaim for the lack of bass that i notice sometimes.. as some of you may know i use my computer for a jukebox to run mp3's (Exact Audio Copy, Lame , alt preset extreme) some songs seem a bit week in the bass region when i turn of my sub, and i dont think any of the fq in these songs are below 40hz. i compared the mp3 through the computer to the original cd on my dvd player, and it lacked some of the oomph in the lower end, but when when i compare the mp3 to the wave on my dvd player, the difference is indistinguishable, could it have something to do with my soundcard?> would it be worth getting something else such as this sound card: Chaintech AV710 (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1226632&NoMapp=1)
its onlt $30 and is based on a pretty popular envy chip.. thnx for anyhelp

Mind if we check the obvious stuff first ? Speakers are set to Large when the sub is off (so the receiver doesn't filter out the bass), room is big enough to reproduce the low notes well (say at least one dimension >12 feet) ?

The Audigy 2zs frequency response seems to be good enough to be a non-issue, unless there is some high-pass filter option we don't know about. Tom's has frequency response charts for different modes -- this page is for 24 bit 96 KHz but the bass response is the same for all the modes :

Go into Creative AudioHQ
Click on Speakers
Click on EAX
Click on Advanced EQ
Then Click on Heavey Metal ( doesn't matter if you like metal or not, just try it)

Does it sound better or worse?

I'm assuming you've set the bass/treble in the sound card up?

That chaintech is great and the measurements for it reflect this. The other channels use cheap DACs, but one of the DACs(forget which channel it's on) is very high quality.

If you wish to move up even more, an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 is a great choice. It measures as a great source. No noise or distortion that is associated with PCI sound cards. Costs about $100 now.

Make sure no EQs or effects are on in the software and drivers for that audigy after playing with them, as these could effect the bass.

The reason why I suggested the EQ was that i have Logitech 680's. And even these 400$ "computer speakers" do not have TONE CONTROLS.....pathetic.

Anyways, in order to get the sound I like for music, I have to turn on the Heavey metal EAX option. But, I don't think this will work for 5.1 movies.
