I am in the process on re-vamping my old Surround Sound System in my Family Room. Room dimensions are as follows 15ftwide x 20ftlong. The tv sits on the far end with right side one wall and left side a half wall. The back end is open to the foyer. Essentially the room size is 15x20 but does not have half a side wall or back wall as it is all open.

I am contemplating the following subs. Either 1 Klipsch RSW10(front left corner, 2 RSW10s(front left corner and behind the coach) or 1 RSW12(front left corner). I have found these ultra cheep less than $400 and $600 from an authorized dealer. What are your thoughts, is the 1 RSW10 enough or should I step up to the RSW12 or go for two?

Second question is I am not sure that I will be buying all Klipsch speakers. I want in walls around the plasma L,R a center on top of the cabinet below the plasma and in-ceiling for LS,RS,LRS, and RRS. 7.1 of course. Will I have a hard time matching these if I do not buy all Klipsch? Your help and comments are greatly appreciated.

hmmmm, you know this is an Axiom board right?

In that light, I would suggest an EP500, it will fill your room nicely!

I am sure the EP 500 would be wonderful to have but if $400 to $600 is your budget I would suggest you take a look at Hsu and SVS subs. They are a big step up from a Klipsch sub.

Ditto what wid said. Hsu and SVS are much, much better than Klipsch.

And they have a few outstanding performers in the $400-$600 range

SVS PB10-NSD @ $429 is an outstanding performer. I have the earlier ISD version and it is very impressive. I get strong, quick and flat response down to 20hz, with useable response down to 17hz.

SVS PB12-NSD @ $600 is the PB10's bigger brother. Flatter and more extended response.

Hsu VTF-2 Mk3 @ $469. I can't personally speak to the performance of this one, but several board members can and it's gotten nothing but rave reviews everywhere I've looked.

Hsu STF-3 @ $479.

Try the EP350 thru the factory outlet. $603.00 you can't go wrong. I have the ep350 in a 25 x 25 x 10 ft room that has a half wall running halfway down it. I'm very happy with it in the front right corner pointing towards the center of the room.
Go with the Axioms all the way.

Axiom, SVS, and HSU will be the most commonly recommended subs around here. I love my SVS PCi+ 20-39. If your 400-600 budget is fixed, take a look at the "regular strength" SVS PC line of subs. $549 or $599 gets you a heck of machine.

Get none of the Klipsch. Just order a set of Axioms that match your budget. Your ears will thank you. This is an Axiom forum, after all.

I can second (or third, or whatever) the SVS recommendation. I recently purchased their PC-Ultra sub and am quite happy with it. The built-in parametric EQ helps to tame a rather large 30Hz peak in my listening room. I was also surprised to find a SVS hat, pen, and T-shirt in my subwoofer box, in addition to the rather large cylindar.

Apparently, these guys know what they are doing, as well. I asked some rather technical questions relating to various components that I was planning to use with the sub, and they addressed them quite handily.

I've read rave reviews on their less expensive subs, too, but have not heard any of them. Going on the many reviews - both professional and blog - I doubt you can beat SVS for the price.

On a personal note, I feel rather odd promoting SVS subs on the Axiom forum. From what I've read, the Axiom subs do a bang-up job for the price, as well. Having no personal experience with them, I can't really comment beyond that.

I find it odd too, seeing as this was your first post! hmm

In what price range? You shouldn't speak so candidly.

1. JL Audio Fathom 113: 103 points.
2. Velodyne DD-18: 100 points.
3. ACI Maestro: 97 points.
4. JL Audio Fathom 112: 95 points.
5. Hsu VTF-3 HO + Turbo: 94 points
5a. Hsu VTF-3 HO w/o Turbo: 92 points
6. SVS PB12-Ultra: 90 points.
6T. Axiom EP-500: 90 points
7. SVS PB12-Plus/2: 87 points.
8. Rocket UFW-12: 85 points (provisional)
9. Rocket X-Sub: 78 points
10. Rocket Tyke: 60 points

According to this "craigsub" list of top subwoofers, the EP500 and the PB-12 Ultra are dead even.

The SVS PB-12 Ultra is $1300 shipped. The EP500 is $1200 shipped. You can do the math I am sure.

Sorry for the harsh post, just sounds like a troll!
Especially considering that this was your first post on an Axiom board.

For that matter, the HSU subs may be worth auditioning at their price.

I thought that I might have come across the wrong way. I originally joined the forum to ask a question (which I did after my initial post), then ran across the sub question. I like my SVS sub, so I commented.

The PC-Ultra and the EP500 are very close in price, shipped. The PB-Ultra costs more than the PC-Ultra, and costs more to ship, as well.

Since I'm considering Axiom speakers for my next HT upgrade, I'm almost sorry I bought the SVS sub. Not that I'm disappointed with the performance, but that I could have saved money by buying an antire HT package from Axiom.
