I can’t believe this crap. Just when I thought I was about to close this book, they screwed me again.

I sent my ‘replacement’ receiver in to the factory to fix it and called today to see what’s going on. They sent it to a dealer in New York State that I’ve not ever heard of or dealt with in any way. They even got the name wrong. They were calling the dealer “Clock Music” and I even had them spell it for me to confirm. Fortunately, they gave me their phone number so when I called them, they ended up being “Clark Music”.

I suppose I should consider myself lucky because the owner seams to be pretty amicable to helping me resolve this and he isn’t overly impressed with Marantz since DM holdings took over, so he’s sympathetic to my situation. He told me the receiver showed up one day and he had no idea why. He’s been arguing with them and they insist it’s his receiver.

Not once did Marantz think to call the person who bought this thing and shipped it to them for repair. They wouldn’t even give this dealer my contact information….unbelievable.

So to recap, I buy an SR/8001 Dec of 06. It gives me troubles after about three months of use, so I ship it to their “super” repair facility at a cost of $90 to me to ship it. Oh, I can’t forget the cost of the Yamaha I buy to tide me over while the Marantz is being repair – roughly $600.

The service center sends it back to me. It still does not work and they tell me they could not re-produce the problem. I send it back to them. Another $90.

The repair center calls me to tell me they have no idea what’s wrong with it and they can’t fix it. They tell me I have to get my dealer to get a RA from Marantz for replacement. They send it back to me.

My dealer tells me the service center needs to provide the RA from Marantz. The service center tells me they don’t do that. My dealer feels my pain and pays to have FedEx pick it up and they send me a replacement out of their stock. (pays to buy from a reputable dealer)

My “replacement” has a problem. Crap. Marantz will not exchange it or refund me because technically, I’ve had it for more than 30 days when considering the original purchase date. (it’s now May of 07).

A couple months of procrastination and another $90 to ship the “replacement” unit to the Marantz main facility in New Jersey this time (per Marantz). Can’t forget the cost of the Denon I buy because I have a feeling that it’ll be a while before I get the Marantz back. By this time I’ve sold the Yamaha for $100 less than I paid…..

Now I get to wait and see if my lost receiver will ever make it back to me. Bets anyone?? Will is show up on my doorstep some day?? Will it actually work corrently??? How much will it cost me to get it back to my doorstep??? I'm taking odds...

This is why I so much enjoy Axiom and referring folks to this company. Too bad other manufactures don’t care about their customer as much as Axiom.

I’m too amazed and numb to be angry. I just want this to end. Anyone who may be considering buying a Marantz, make damn sure you buy it from a reputable dealer.

Dang, that's having old man bad luck bad Mike, sorry to hear about your woes with Marantz ... thanks for the heads up.

Fortuneatly I've only had to send one of my components back for a repair, which happened to be my Rotel RB1080 amp whenever a right side channel went south not too long after I made the purchase. I took it to my dealer, they bench tested it, sent it to their repair facility in New Jersey and I got it shipped via UPS to my doorstep upon completion of the repair. I was happy with them.

Better luck next time Mike!

I dunno, man.... I'd quit while I was ahead. I'm sorry to hear about the continuing issues. That bites.

Nothing worse than the dreaded "No Fault Found" bench test result.

At this point, if not for the cost and assuming you like the Denon, you (not us; we feel for you) would almost hope that they keep screwing up just to continue the saga .
I tend to either give up right away or go for as much pain as possible; sort of a warped badge of honour. If nothing else you get a good story out of it (hardly consolation, I know).

It would be funny except for the shipping costs.

I would add:
"Mike takes big Alaskan shotgun to re-returned Marantz and returns it again to the factory for kicks 3:1"

Lets not forget.
Mike dips heavily into his Staggs Leap cache and forgets the whole bad dream 1:1
Seriously though, that's got to be one of the worst horror stories about customer service from a supposedly reputable company that I've heard in a long time.
