I am still a long time away from getting surrounds, but the other thread here got me thinking. Will it be OK to place the SR and SL speakers on the walls to the right and left of the couch, even though the left wall is further away than the right wall?

I am assuming that room correction features in receivers can make this work?

It's not ideal, but yes, receivers are designed to deal with the less than ideal. There are delay (distance) settings, and volume trim. So speakers that are nearer to you can be delayed so the sound from all channels arrives at the same time. Plus speakers which are farther away can be turned up a bit louder than the ones that are closer.

Sure, Henry; that shouldn't be any problem at all. The auto-calibration(not room correction)system will equalize the delays and volumes at the listening position.
