Axiom Home Page Forums General Discussion Home Theater It is safe to mount M3s bookshelf on ceiling?

Hi. I was out for quite some time but now with a new project. Probably a silly question but better safe than sorry. Currently I have a 5.1.4 setup in my house @ Puerto Rico (all concrete). I'm using my .4 with M3s as FHR/FHL and RHR/RHL mounted to the front and backs walls. So nothing in the ceiling.

Now I'm buying a house in Florida that will include a Game Room / HT Room. Already with some wiring on ceiling. So I was thinking of using my M3s as TFR/TFL and TRR/TRL mounting them on the ceiling.. but don't know if it is safe to mounting those speakers on the ceiling as they are kind of heavy using the Full Meta Bracket. I'm also adding a Sony projector to the ceiling as well. But as you know ceiling is not concrete as in Puerto Rico so I need to know if the ceiling will hold all those 4 M3s bookshelf + my new projector.

Please advise.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you locate the studs.

I have a pair of M2's mounted to the ceiling in a 7.1 setup. I used some 3/4 inch plywood and some mounts from amazon that I got for 20 bux. I tried a different set of mounts that just could not take the weight but the one I have now work great. I looked at the FMB's but they wont hold the M2 vertical only horizontal.

You can see in this pic the small 3/4 thick plywood that I screwed to the stud (they were running the wrong way) then I screwed the bracket to the plywood.












I used monoprice ceiling mounts and painted them white using enamel paint and to me they look great. Enamel white looks just like your white stove when applied . The thing I like about the mounts was that where they pivot in the middle it has interlocking teeth so the speaker wont lean down over time . The last set I had used a ball and socket with little allen set screws and they just could not hold the weight.

I already have the FMBs so I was thinking on using them even though they hold the M2 horizontal. I'm ok with that as long as I can point them to the listening position. Do I need the plywood for better support? Or I can go directly from the FMB to the ceiling as long as a stud is behind.

That's cool, may as well use them if you have them. I did mine that way because the base of the mounts were wider than the joists and the ceiling is old school popcorn. Get a stud finder and get busy .:)

Oh and most importantly , they sound fantastic up there they blend wonderfully.

Actually looking at the brackets and stands in the Axion Web I found they have a Full Metal Ceiling bracket available for M2s and other speakers.. is that better than the Full Metal Bracket? Can I mound the Full Metal Bracket on the ceiling with the M3s?
