I have the 4K TV and right now an older Panasonic blu-ray player. it works great for blu-ray but not as great for DVD's.

I need to buy a new playing at some point as I borrowed the player from the family room to watch blu-rays. I will need my own for the new TV. So I have some options.

Panasonic BDT360 for $134. does 4K upscale and reviews pretty good.

oppo bdp-103Darbie for $830. is supposed to be a fantastic player and upscaler, but have not done a side by side against anything else. Is q whole load of coin

samsung UBD-K8500 for $600 is a true UHD 4K player with HDR for the new format that I don't know if I'd ever really use but how does it compair to the oppo?

sit and wait for something better or cheeper to come out.

I have an Oppo BDP 105 with a separate Darbee external unit. It is basically an audiophile unit built like a tank(18lbs.) that I originally purchased for $1299 and the 103 was originally $499. As you have seen, the drop in the Cdn. dollar has made the price skyrocket on these units. Incidentally, I actually prefer the separate Darbee because it enables me to process all my sources, not just what is being played on the BR player. If you are interested in the processing, you can purchase the newer Darbee DVP-5000S for $325.00 from a place called "acoustic-tech.com" in Montreal and buy a less expensive player. The only problem with the current Darbee units(even those in the Oppo players) is that they will not pass through a native 4K signal and only process up to 1080p. I have been told the 4K units will be forthcoming in the coming months.

As far as a newer 4K UHD player purchase is concerned, I, myself, am waiting to see what Oppo comes up with in 2016. I believe the delays could be because, once again, even though the 2016 monitors are touting an even wider color range Super UHD, there still has not been one standard established yet, i.e. different formats such as "Dolby vision" and others built in to the newer monitors and it seems, also, other than upscaled 2K>4K processed movies such as The Martian(which the 2K version I already own), the discs are few and far between. Having said all that, I understand the newer UHD players will make the VP adjustment automatically depending on the movie and the monitor's features.

Frankly, when I looked at my current version of The Martian upscaled to 4K on my new LG UHD monitor played on my Oppo BDP105 with the Darbee employed, I really don't know how much better it could get?
