After researching and reading reviews of speakers for months, I finally settled with a pair of M80s which arrived today ! I hooked them to a pair of Outlaw 2200 monoblocks. Also using an Outlaw 990 prepro. So far things sound good. These speakers replaced a pair of Bose 301 which I had for seven years. Immediately noticed the much superior bass. Being nighttime and kids gone to bed, could not do any louder listening yet but the sound is very clean. Does the sound get better after a certain period of time ? Hopefully so. Thanks to the forum which taught me a lot.

After about a week or so your ears start to become acustomed to the new speakers that make them seem better, but the reality of it is they don't change any sound past the first few moments of their life. At least that is what the experts with axiom state ... I believe them.

And I agree with the post above. Axiom like volume.

Thanks for the replies. Can't wait for this weekend to do some serious listening. I would love to get anyone's suggestions for reference CD's to listen to. I am getting the Diana Krall CD after reading about it in many reviews. Any others ? I like rock / classic rock, fusion, classical and some R&B if recorded well. I don't mind expanding my horizon with other music. Thanks for the posts.

Lovin, enjoy those M80s, and I could make dozens of suggestions to help, but a nice three disc package for about $25 with free shipping would be The Planets , Swan Lake , and Rite of Spring .

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Interesting, most people making the jump from Bose to Axiom(I for one) find the mid/upper clarity to be the first thing I noticed to be SOOO much better than the Bose.
But, yes the bass is also better, not boomy and loose.

I don't think I would consider myself an audiophile(mostly cause I don't have that much disposable income) but I am a multi instrumentalist with audio production experience and can give you a few thoughts. As a big classic rock fan these are some recordings I always thought were really well done. Steely Dan - Aja(While this is a standout, pretty much anything steely dan is fantasticlly produced), the song captain of her heart by double(this song is just so atmospheric and majestic), Pink Floyd-Dark side of the moon(obvious choice), Tears for fears songs, songs in the key of life-stevie wonder, sting songs... Thats all I can think off the top of my head.

Anything by Keb Mo, recording is top notch. Poncho Sanchez, so far these are the absolute best recordings I have EVER heard (the imaging is incredible)wether live or studio and really fun stuff to listen to.

As far as sound goes, the 80's do like to play loud but speaker positioning and placement are most likely to improve your overall sound experience assuming you have a decent AVR or pre/pro.

Jake, you are probably right. I am finding now that at higher volume the sound is very clear through the Axiom but with the Bose it was more noise at those volumes. I am listening louder now to really get a good feel for it. How is your experience so far ? I am using the Outlaw 990 pre and Outlaw monoblocks. Thanks for the post.
