Hello All,

I'm in need of a replacement woofer for one of my
Michaura M55 speakers, specifically one of the bottom
drivers, 5.25" I believe.
I sent one of the other drivers to Axiom but they were
not able to match it up.
If anyone has a spare driver, or an old M55 please send
me a pm/email.

Thanks,
Todd

Golf Boy,

I have Michaura M55s, M66s and M665s. The M55s, as you know, uses 2 aluminum 5.25" drivers, the M66s, use 2x6.5" aluminum drivers, the M665s use 2x6.5" drivers and 1x5.25" driver. I have never had to replace any of the 5.25" drivers, but I have replaced a 6.5" driver in one of the M665s. It is the same 6.5" driver that Axiom uses in its speakers. I'm looking at the 5.25" drivers in the M665s and M55s as I sit here, I just ran downstairs and looked at the 5.25s" in my M2s. They appear to be identical. I would be shocked if they were different in any way.

I'd take the chance and buy a 5.25" from Axiom.

I bought the last pallette of speakers from Michaura, 2 pairs of M665s, 5 pairs of M55s. They were supposed to send me all their spare drivers. They shipped the speakers but did not send any spares ... I figured they didn't have them, couldn't find them, or it was too much trouble.

Anyway, I upgraded the caps and resistors in the Michauras, damped the cabinets, and have to say I absolutely LOVE these speakers. Good luck with your M55s. Axiom would be your only source for replacement drivers. If you love your Michauras, take a chance with an Axiom 5.25.

Thanks for the reply,

The drivers may look similar, but I had Axiom send
me a replacement and there was a difference. The replacement had a much smaller magnet, and probably weighed
about 1/3rd of the original driver. There was also
some "cosmetic" differences.
I think the only way I'd switch the driver, is if I did
all 4 (2 per cab), and I'd rather find a matching
replacement if possible.

If you hear/know/find any replacement 5.25", let me know.

Perhaps the difference is that the Michaura drivers are shielded, while the one Axiom sent is not?

Among my M55s I noticed they come in 2 flavors, fat boys, and thin.

Here's a post from Harmonic Discord in June 2002

There were also 2 versions of the Axiom M22, which these are based on, and use the same midwoofers- According to axiom, the earier versions used a larger cancling magnet, but both models sounded the same...
If the michauras were made at the same time as axiom changed their midwoofers, the weight difference would make sense...

This fella says changed the 5.25" drivers in the Axiom M22s from heavy to light, and refers to a link to the Axiom website where this was discussed years ago.

Well, I'm smitten by these Axiom built Michaura M55s and have bought a total of 4 pairs of M55s and one of the M665.

I gave one pair away and my friend and I tweaked the pair I gave him and one of mine with a Jensen Paper Oil Capacitor (much larger and heavier than stock, and some Caddock Resistors. Since I have no idea how to damp a speaker cabinet, I slathered blue tack along all the seams, then when a more informed inmate suggested, "not the seams, fool, the middle of the cabinet," I opened them again and slathered more blue tack down the middles of the panels. Clearly, this speaker now burdened with an immoderate amount of blue tack is much heavier than it was when it left the factory. I also put a bit of felt inside the cabinets because I had some.

I then went to do an A/B test with a pair which I took out of the box for the first time today.

My goodness, which is which, I asked, noticing that one of the new speakers felt considerably heavier. I checked the serial number on the back, (I noted the serial no. of the modded speaker) and sure enough the new, unmodded speaker felt heavier.

How could this be? I asked myself. So I dragged the speakers to a scale, and sure enough, the speakers laden with blue tack and an enormous Jensen capacitor and some extra felt weighed in at 14 lbs each.

The out of the box speakers weighed in at 16 lbs each !!!!

While laying in the felt inside my modded speakers tonight, I listened to the heavier stock speakers and straight out of the box they sound wonderful. I know that some of you with fancy equipment are shaking your heads and musing, "what a fool," he thinks a $19 speaker bought from Ubid can sound good. Well, friends, all I can say is try 'em out yourselves. With the help of a wee Velodyne sub the M55s sound better than the BC Acoustiques Tibre I thought I was going to have to buy to get those incredibly pure and sweet highs. I believe they sound better than Axiom's M3Tis, which I've retired for the while.

Anyway, I think there are two flavors of M55s, one which probably weighs about 13-13.5 lbs (before blue tack) and another flavor which weighs 16 lbs.

serial number on the heavy ones end in 021. serial number of the lights end in 048.

I'll give the blue tacked modded speaker a listen after enjoying the heavy weights for a bit longer.

I have some M55s and this unit looks very similar to the drivers in mine which are somewhat different than those in my M22s.
