i have a decent sized room, couch is in the middle then it goes back out to the kitchen (no rear wall) - where should i be placing my qs8's? should they be directly behind my couch, off to the side? at a slight angle behind the couch? ear level aligned with couch pointing straight at me? angled inward ear level near the wall as i have no rear wall? here are some pics of the room to give you an idea, please let me know!

The beauty of the QS8's is that they are very forgiving. I believe the recommendation is slightly forward of the listening position. I used to have mine about 2' above my ears and to the back. Sounded fantastic. I have since moved them slightly forward but have not recalibrated the new configuration.

In your pix, one suggestion I would make is to have the back of the speaker parallel to that long wall. You don't necessarily have to have the tweeters firing right at you. And, you'll allow them to fire along the wall, instead of having to reflect against it. Use an SPL to calibrate those rears, or use auto calibration if your receive has it.

I would recommend off to the left and right of the primary listening area. Also, try to keep them above your ears if possible. If you decide to get 2 more Qs8's for the rear channel, by all means, place them behind the listening area a ways...

" I believe the recommendation is slightly forward of the listening position."

I thought it was on the sides and slightly behind the listening area.

Mine are about 1ft behind the listening area and about 4-5ft above it.
They sound fantastic!

From the Axiom Web Site FAQ:

Where should I place my surround speakers?
Ideally, surround speakers should be either wall-mounted or stand-mounted to either side of the couch or primary listening area, from one to six feet higher than seated listeners' ears, and slightly forward or rearwards of the listening area if you wish. Axiom's Quadpolar surrounds are especially versatile and can yield excellent performance with stand or wall-mounting to the rear as well as at side locations. (see our dedicated stands for the QS Surround speakers in the Store). Rear center speakers for 6.1 and 7.1 installations are intended to go on the rear wall at about the same height as the surround speakers.

I prefer slightly to the rear, but try both and chose what you prefer.

I tried building some stands that put them at the right height. You know those basketball hoops you see in the driveway with a five foot wide base for stability ?

That's why
