Hey everyone. I just purchased a new Axiom setup to replace my Bose cubes (hindsight is 20/20). I purchased M50ti's for my fronts, Qs4s for my surrounds and a VP150 for my center. I have a Sony WM40 sub and currently have a Sony STR-DE545 receiver. I am looking to upgrade my receiver sometime this fall but really have no idea what to look for. I am thinking of something in the 500-600 dollar range. Any suggestions as to what would maximize my new set up?

Colesy

I have my Axiom's hooked up to an h/k AVR520 and I think they sound great together. With your budget, I'd look at the h/k AVR320.
Good luck!

I got lucky on uBid and scored a new Sony STRDB 1070 100 wattx6 receiver for under $400. I use it in my office driving a Merak horn center, 4 Michaura M55s and an old Kenwood SW300 subwoofer. The synergy of this system is all good!!! The Sony is wonderful, musical and has slam.

I also have an Onkyo 797THX receiver for my main HT system, and although I really like it very much, and it may be purer for music, the Sony does not suffer by comparison.

I've heard good things about the Outlaw 1050 A/V receiver...

Well I made my decision. I just purchased a Denon 3802 from 6ave.com for $699 + shipping. Couldn't resist a bargain like that. Now I hope I can hook the dang thing up!

Almost forgot to mention my all-time favorite from among modestly priced 5 channel receivers: TECHNICS SADX 940-1070. I had a 940 (picked it up to hold me over until nOhr monoblocks arrived). Used it only in 2 channel, and in combo with my M3s and an 8" velodyne this system just knocked my socks off. Beautiful, sweet musicality!

I gave away the Technics, it's now set up in home theater mode (5x100 watts) Merak MC6H center, AR Sequel fronts, Mission 77ds backs, BIC sub and sounds just GREAT!

These Technics have been discontinued and can be had for less than $200USD. If you find one, grab it!!! You won't be sorry. It blew away my expensive Harman Kardon AVR65 and is comparable to my Sony STRDB 1070. (less slam but more musicality)

Gonna take my meds and nap for a while now.
