Currently i am using the Acoustic Research performance component video cable and coaxial audio cable connecting my HDTV turner,Yamaha RX-V2500,DVD and plasma TV. My questions are: Do I get better video quality by using the Acoustic Research Pro series cables? Which cable needs better shield, Audio or video cable?

Thanks,

I have never owned any of their products. From what I can tell from a quick look on the web, the A/R Performance series looks to be a well-made, reasonably priced series of cables. It looks like they are foil-shielded RG-59 type coax cable, which is pretty common for high-flexibility interconnects. I couldn't find any specs, although I would imagine they would be the same as for a like-built product. If you are not having any problems with audio or video noise my guess it that there is no reason to swap them out.

I missed one point. My guess is that they use the same cable for both products, meaning the shielding is the same. All of my interconnects are from Blue Jeans Cables, and the all use the same cable, so are all shielded the same. I personally couldn't tell you if there is a difference between mine or another manufactures' products. JohnK might be able to answer that more fully. There are some that say any well-built cable using quality components will work well. Others think you need more esoteric materials and such. I know my system looks and sounds great.

Han, I took a look at their "Performance" and "Pro" series, and as usual there were almost no details given. Both are 75 ohm coaxial cables with foil plus copper braid shielding and, as Mark mentioned, might be identical except for the connectors and the cosmetics of the outer jacket. There's no good reason to expect that the more expensive cable would be better in shielding or any other significant factor. Short cable runs in the typical home environment are a pretty trivial technological task, even for video.
