Does anyone know of a simple way to control the on/off power for my amp?
Its a Carver M-1.5t and draws 35-1500 watts, so it can not be run by my recr. I have an old (20 yrs) Panasonic, manual power box, but its a little dated with the blue lcd clock , but still works! A simple on/off switch box or remote control would be tops. I doubt anyone makes these type of units any more, but ya never know!

ps- I spent last night putting it all together. All I can say is "wow".
Of course thats after a bunch of trips into the attic to drill spkr cable holes. You know how it goes, drill hole one stud to far over, climb down, climb back up, redrill, climb back down because the battery died, climb back.....BUT, I have to say speaker mounting was a breeze! Simple & straight forward. Good mounting system!

Tks for listening to a grumpy old guy, who's legs are killing him today!

Something like this .

I've never used one but they seem to work from what I hear. They are usually called "Smart Power Strips". You plug a main device into a special outlet on the strip. Then your other devices into the other outlets. The smart strip has a relay that supplies power to the other outlets when your master device is on. I believe it does this by sensing the current flow to the master device. Just make sure it is rated for the power you need to plug into it.

Others may be along that have actually used these, or have alternative ideas.

The Smart strip sounds like an easy fix for you.

However, I'm assuming your amp doesn't have any sort of remote control at all. If it did support IR controllers, another option might be a good universal remote. Not a $20 dollar Wallymart special but one that can do more than just turn stuff on and off.

I use a URC 300 because I'm a geek and liked being able to program my own Macros but the Harmony remotes are popular and easy to set up. Just plug them into your PC, fill in your gear types on their web page and your done.

The difference is that you don't just turn things on and off but they can set all your inputs and outputs and options with just one button press. My wife quickly got over the 200$ price tag when she realized she could work our AV stuff without help again.

If your amp can't be remotely controlled, I probably would not bother though. Just a thought as I'm reading this so as to not fall asleep on aboring conference call.

With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

Hehe, one geek to another, thanks for the thought! but have one in the other room already. Unfortunatly, the Carver is a good old fashion plug it in and away you go, no frills, no on/off switch even, but manOman can she make the W22's zipadedoda along crystal clear!

" My wife quickly got over the 200$ price tag "
I buried the cost of this unit with an assortment of other stuff. All my wife saw was the final amount on the bill. No lies, just not the complete story
