I finally got the Radioshack SPL meter and plan to do the tune up over the long weekend. Any suggestions/links with information on how to do it?

A simplified version:

Put the system into speaker level mode, set the meter to 70db range and simply adjust the levels to match the same output, around 75db-80db is usual. Just hold the meter straight up in front of you and adjust away.

If you have a tripod you can mount the meter on that for a little more precise measurement.

It's usually recommended to set the meter to C weight and slow reads too.

When I set mine up like mentioned above I didn't like it for movies. I adjusted it to having the center set +1 db and the sub I run +3-5 db more depending on the movie.

Its not unusual to bump the center and almost everybody bumps the sub.

I started with the sub at +3db, but have now dialed it back to 0. I have my center channel at +1db.
