I just found out that the annual "Boomershoot" in Idaho is happening again, and I'm thinking about heading out there next April. The basic idea would be to load up the Jeep with rifles (and any friends who can get time off work) and head off across the US, visiting folks from the Axiom board and anyone with good four-wheeling along the way and back.

EDIT -- hold on, that doesn't sound right. The "rifles" and the "visiting folks from the Axiom boards" have nothing to do with each other. I'm not planning a shooting spree across the American midwest, that's so 1930s

The basic premise of Boomershoot is pretty simple -- it's basically a long range rifle competition with the added twist of reactive targets. "Reactive" means they go "boom" when you hit them, ranging from a small bang and a big puff of smoke to big greasy fireballs.

The Axiom owners Frappr map seems to take forever to load on dial-up, so other than Randy I don't yet know who would be on the route, but I'm tossing this out in case anyone feels up to a visit in April.

The attached map shows the shortest route -- I would probably stay fairly close to that route going one way, then for the other leg either go down through Colorado or up through Canada. I would like to avoid that long drive through Nebraska though, it gets old really fast. Nebraska is BIG. Anyways, here's the route :

Aha, it finally loaded. Randy, your Frappr entry is out of date

Sounds like an interesting trip, hope you don't have any problems with guns hanging out the back of the jeep these days.

I just checked Frappr and my entries look fine? I see the map seems to have changed, when I hover over a person, the formatting is all screwed up. hmmmm

Well, I'm disappointed to see you won't be coming through Cleveland, but based on where you live and where you're going, it makes sense that you wouldn't. Have a great Trip

Randy, I just meant that Frappr proudly advertised your EP350...

I don't think Cleveland would be that far out of the way, so it's definitely a possibility.

I'm trying to get a clear answer on bringing guns from Canada to the US. From what I can see I need either a valid hunting license from any state *or* a written invitation to the match, plus a properly filled out and approved BATFE form authorizing me to bring guns into the US. Handguns are more complicated, but mostly on the Canadian side since I need written authorization to move a handgun from one location to another, even to the range or a gun shop.

If my posts end in early April you know it wasn't as easy as I thought.

That is interesting, when I check both the Axiom audition frapper, and the Axiom owner frapper, it shows the EP500 when I hover over my tack. Must be your dial up.

I'll click on the link again and go to bed. Maybe it will have counted from EP350 to EP500 by the time I wake up

Well, Bridgey... if you decide to make one of the legs through beautiful Winterpeg, Manisitcoldout... you're welcome to stop in and visit here.

Shoot. I do think that San Francisco is probably a tad out of your way...

Whoo Hoo! Guns AND explosives! It Blowed Up Real Good!

That's only 367 miles from home, and I could sneak a trip to Hell's Canyon in there. Tempting.

Hey Kids, let's go watch Mr. Bridgman blow stuff up! Cool!

New Hampshire is pretty far out of your way, huh? At least our gun laws are extremely relaxed....

Maybe someday I'll get to your neck of the woods and we can blow stuff up around your house?

Man, your neighbors will be talking for generations about the "American _ _ _ hole" that visited. And you'll be pretty well-known yourself!
