Anyone see the show Designer Guys on HGTV? They were redoing a basement for a couple who wanted a media/playroom for their family. The title of the episode was called "Family Viewing", produced in 2005.

To cut to the chase I noticed immediately that the guy and his wife had some Axiom's in the room. On top of the RPTV was a vp150(due to its obvious shape) and next to it was either the m50's or m60's. Looked like they were finished in Boston cherry. Also had a Denon receiver powering the speakers.

Anyway i thought it was interesting considering what you usually see (in terms of audio on these home improvement shows) are the typical Bose's and B&W's. Never thought I'd see speakers from an internet direct company. Pretty cool!

I'm surprised my Wife didn't alert me to that, as that network and "Style" are on all, all, all day long!

...and often times the "We" network as well!

Uh,.....wanna guess the real reason why I got into headphones lately?

Actually I think I know why She didn't call me.

A few months ago I made what I thought was simply a witty comment about what "H' and "G" stood for in HGTV. Instead of "House and Garden" I postulated that it had more to do with the orientation of the majority of the cast members.

I guess She took me seriously.
Rich.

That is pretty cool richeydob. Most likely not a regular on this forum.

Never heard of a "dob" before tonight...Is that some kind of new breed or something?

The room was quite nice as you would imagine. Roomy enough for a bar in the back too! The only problem was the placement of the surrounds. They were hidden behind curtains/drapes to make it wife friendly.

Rich, I'm aware of the orientation of some of the cast members. Not that there is anything wrong with that! I wasn't watching anything special today anyway, just flipping the channels around and couldn't help but notice the speakers when I landed on HGTV.

That being said, I've seen much better home theater rooms on this site anyway. A select few of you guys have really got some spectacular digs. You know who you are!

That is to funny, I wish these forums had a spell-check as you type feature. I think I was thinking about In-N-Out Burgers and replaced the G for a B or something like that. ha ha Or possibly I was inquiring about your DOB or something, or maybe it was just late and I needed to get to bed.

Me, I'm just pretending that the OP meant the title as "Axiom is seen on TV?"

Thought I'd jump on the grammar bashing bandwagon.

Thanks Ken. Even with that quick lesson I still don't or is that dont get it. And probably never will. I'm a lost cause...

Did they change the speakers in the "after" pictures? It doesn't really look like it, but clearly the Axiom logo is missing on the VP150. I suppose they just changed the grills as there would be no other reason why they would change out all the speakers (unless the HGTV crew are audio snobs!). It seems like the TV speaker cabinet has been changed to the same fabric as well. Of course, the color of the grills could simply be an illusion caused by the dim lighting in the room. However, that wouldn't explain why the Axiom logo is gone.

Am I the only one who prefers the "before" picture ?

Yes, my thoughts are that it is not always necessary to put something in every single inch of open space.....
Far too jammed with stuff.....

I agree, taking the curtains off the wall would be a start.

no I hate the "after" photo as well.

I'm pretty sure you could have a series where decorators come in look at at room, exclaim "that's hideous" and redo it. Then you bring in the next team who look at the redone room, exclaim "that's hideous" and redo it... etc. etc.

Given enough time you would get back to the original layout .

At least they didn't use that blind, glass eyed "lets stencil everything in sight" Debbie Travis.

My favorite feature is the jungle scene in the corner. What the heck is that all about? "Honey, where's Jr.?"

"Um... did you check the plant?"

"Ah, BAD PLANT! SPIT THAT OUT! No Mircle Gro for you!"

I'm just wondering why there's a sink less within a couple feet of a bed. Or why there's a bed in the entertainment room to begin with.

Exactly what kind of entertaining did these people have in mind??

I totally agree, John. The "after" photo is just(in my best ladies man voice) "too much fluff". WAF at its best, or worst I should say.

I think the room looks OK, they just crammed too much crap in there. Get rid of half that shit and it would be OK.

I'm wondering if they painted the TV. does the bottom part of it look brown now or is it just me?

I agree with you folks who believe the room looks better in the 'before' shot ... clean up the cluttered wires, place the mains where they really need to be, add a couple of bass traps, some strategically placed acoustic panels and although I do see a single sub over near the left front corner I'd most definitely add a couple of 5 or 600s.

And...

Put that damn jungle gym out in the garage (unless it's a total mess like mine and doesn't have the room), add some built in CD/DVD cabinets and maybe throw a little paint on the walls. That's all this room needs I'm thinking.

From the looks of the "before" photo, it looks like it was a GUY'S room to begin with. Well, the "after" photo looks too girly. So maybe the guy has a wife or a girlfriend who disapproved of the old layout. But my question is...why would anyone who prefers this fancy-schmantzy room approve of the Corn Dogs & King Kong signs?!
Posted By: pmbuko Re: Axiom's seen on TV? - 10/10/06 07:22 PM
They shouldn't have labeled it Before and After, rather Single and Married.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Axiom's seen on TV? - 10/10/06 08:08 PM
It looks like an attack of the 60s and 70s. Horrible. Of course, I'm not partial to the before picture, either.
Posted By: Ajax Re: Axiom's seen on TV? - 10/10/06 11:15 PM
I don't care much for the "after" setup but, though appreciating the openess of the "before" setup, the audio equipment on the floor and a weight bench in the room are a tad gauche, doncha think? And what's all that stuff on the floor along the left wall? DVDs? CDs?

Of course you have to take into consideration that I'm one of those who puts something in every inch of open space. What can I say? I'm an accumulator. It's a curse!
Posted By: bridgman Re: Axiom's seen on TV? - 10/11/06 02:21 AM
For clarity, I am not saying I think the "before" room is great, just that I prefer the "before" to the "after".

I bet they spray-painted the speaker grills brown.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Axiom's seen on TV? - 10/11/06 04:54 AM
I doubt it--I think it's just the different lighting/tinting of the picture.
Posted By: HAY Re: Axiom's seen on TV? - 10/13/06 07:28 PM
Let's remember that this room is of an Axiom owner who may come on the boards.

I find it funny how many negative comments have been made considering there has been a few other rooms posted in the past that weren't that great. For those, either limited posts of "nice set up" were made or slight suggestions for improvment were offered.

I don't want to come across the wrong way but we do have a lot of faithful lurkers on the site (I was for a couple years) and would hate to see them upset. It's not often on this site people are anything but nice and helpful.

Yeah, good point. I still think the "after" is too busy though
