So the xbox 360 with a VGA cable adapter has the ability to upconvert DVDs to 720p and 1080i. The problem I have is that I don't want to run a VGA cord through the walls and ceiling all the way to the back of the room. This will then make it so that I have 3 cable runs for the video (Component, HDMI, and VGA) all with wall plates...makes for a messy look.

I am wondering if it is possible to use a VGA to Component cord such as the one below without the need for a transcoder:

It states the following:

"Do not assume that this cable will work just because you have a VGA port (ie. you can't use this cable to connect your PC to a device that only accepts component video, since PCs do not output component video).

This cable is for Satellite TV, HDTV, Component RGB Video, Y/ Pb /Pr Video and most LCD Projectors."

So technically, the Xbox 360 outputs both Component and VGA so it should work on that respect regardless of what is plugged in to it for output. It also states that it will work with most LCD projectors and I am planning on the AE900...so shouldn't it work on all accounts?

I firmly believe that there would have to be a harware revision for that to occur since the current connector is analog only.

Hmmm, you bring up a good point...Man that would be sweet if they offered HDMI, i wouldn't have worry about this VGA crap.

I am stingy, I would rather spend 30 bucks running a VGA cord than buy an upscaling DVD player!

Perhaps Digital Audio is a different kind of signal than digital video.

well my vga port is already used for my htpc, which i prefer as no other inputs on my tv have the option to stretch the image to fit the screen (like a normal monitor does). i am crossing my fingers for an hdmi cable though... however i will probably still get a stand alone hd-dvd player in the future, that way i wont have to change the picture options on the tv each time i go from gaming to watching a movie (my tv has a game mode)

Sorry, guys... optical is audio only. Doesn't have much to do with whether it outputs digital video or not.

I have a feeling that the otherwise inexplicable HDDVD add on (Look! We have a next gen disc player too!) will have its own digital video output.

from the pictures that ive seen of it, there is nothing on the back except for some usb ports and a mini usb port, there is however what looks like an expansion bay in the back of it..
