Hey,
Did anyone else experience this ?

Some of the commercials during the superbowl, the audio kept cutting in and out. The receiver jumps from dolby digital to Dolby PL II.

I was at my brothers and it did it during the game. I am back home now and watching the game as I recorded it on my cable box dvr. So the same thing is happening with 2 different receivers, and cable providers.

I tried to google this but nothing came up.

overall I would say about 1/3 of the commercials cut in and out as mentioned. The game itself was great .

any insight to this problem is appreciated.

Thanks

Randy
What brand of receiver do you have? I have an Harman Kardan receiver and its a known bug that the receiver cuts off the first couple of seconds of audio when switching between audio formats (DD -> DPL, DD -> DTS, etc)
Hello
thanks for the reply.

This was more than just a single droput lasting a second or so. It would do it 5-15 times during a single commercial. Not all commercials did it. I should investigate different settings, but was wondering if anyone else experienced this.

At my brothers:
Yamaha htr-5930
insight cable in HD
Motorola cable box
coax spdif cable from cable box to reciever.

at my house
Denon 2807
brighthouse cable
scientific atlantic cable box
optical spdif cable from cable box to reciever

thanks

It wasn't that bad for me, but I do remember it happenning a couple of times and thinking the sponsor would want some of their money back since they didn't get a full airing for what they paid.
Hello,
Well at least we werent the only ones. Were you on cable tv also ? which one ?

It was sorta embarrassing to have a superbowl party, and have 20 guests wondering what was wrong with the big screen tv, 5.1 speaker setup.

I did a little investigating and my cable box has 3 digital output settings, HDMI, Dolby Digital, Other. If I put it on Other then the reciever stays in PL II mode, doesnt cut out, but I can hear a change in the audio. It is like it is going from a regular stereo to a wide dispersion stereo. More than likely it is changing modes. If I have the cable box digital audio output on HDMI, or Dolby Digital, then the receiver cuts in and out , as mentioned in the first post. I tested this on General Motors commercial where they are singing all the old songs. It was in the first half.

Yea if I was a sponsor I would want some of my money back, but I dont know how many people were effected.

thanks

Someone posted that it had to do w/ metadata. I also noticed it. I thought my Tivo HDD was crapping out...

cool, thanks.
I was originally worried it had something to do with the yamaha receiver I sold to my brother.
Randy, this was only happening on the HD broadcast of the superbowl.

I was at someone's house with an HD broadcast, and the commercials (especially the Ford and Careerbuilder.com commercials) had other sounds, but the voices you couldn't hear at all.

It was definitely something on CBS's end.

In the other room that had the plain regular broadcast, the audio was coming in loud and clear.

Don't think anything is wrong with your setup.
