Ah, the wonder of a falling dollar...
Posted By: pmbuko Re: Price increase... - 02/15/07 09:35 PM
Huh. The M50s are going up the most, dollar and percentage-wise.

Would it be safe to assume the outlet prices wll go up as well??
Posted By: LT61 Re: Price increase... - 02/16/07 01:20 AM
OR.... maybe, it's all the audio reviewers, and Axiom board members, who always are saying:

"They could charge much more for speakers this good"...ETC., ETC,

Well.....

Jason,

go for the EP500, seriously...do you want to come audition mine? Factory Outlet is around $1210 I think.

pm me with your free times if you want to check it out. Be sure to bring your Radio Shack SPL meter, mine are only calibrated by ear

Thanks Robb, I would really like to hear the 500 maybe next weekend.

Never mind, I should read my email more often.

Going up again?

That EP400 is getting even farther out of reach
Posted By: littleb Re: Price increase... - 02/25/07 04:33 AM
I have been thinking about upgrading my front speakers(M22s) and because of the price increase now might be the time to do it. Recently, I have read some opinions on other boards that suggest that the M60s/M80s don't do it in the bass department and that the M22s+sub is the way to go. Since, in the opinions of some, I'm already there, is there any reason to even consider upgrading to the M60s or M80s at this time???
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Price increase... - 02/25/07 04:39 AM
Um... have the people on these other boards actually heard the M80s or the M60s? My M80s certainly do put out quite a bit of bass. Of course, being a bass head, I like running them with the sub, too.
Posted By: Wid Re: Price increase... - 02/25/07 04:45 AM

I don't get this either. The M80s do have pretty impressive bass imo. So these other folks are saying M22s plus a sub is the pinnacle of the Axiom line up? That’s sounds absurd.

I think some really really like bass--not happy until the pants are flapping type. Others, somewhat less so. Personal preference. Heck, I thought my M40s put out enough bass, but I gots a small room anyway.
Posted By: littleb Re: Price increase... - 02/25/07 02:21 PM
Pants flappin' bass put a smile on my old face. Now, I have to decide whether I settle for my present setup, order the M60s alone, the M80s alone or go hog wild and step up to the VP150 from the VP100 and either of the aforementioned towers. Decisions, decisions, decisions. FEI: The Mrs. is on board with whatever I choose to do. She is one awesome babe!!!

Looks like Bruce is going to order some M80s . You know how you are, if you don't get the best you will always be wondering what if

You have to look at it from someone's point of view with a budget and wants a home theatre.

I would personally choose an EP500 and a pair of M22s over M80s and a EP125. The choice is obvious isn't it?

If you have a budget that would allow for a an EP500 and M22s, and M80s and an EP125, which would you choose?

I guess to each his own. I am not saying M22s and a sub is the pinnacle, but it is one of Axioms top choices for speakers and a sub.
Posted By: Wid Re: Price increase... - 02/26/07 04:38 PM
The choice is obvious if the only subs you are looking at is Axioms. The thing is there are far better choices in subs for the same amount or just a few dollors more if you go with another company. I would pick the M80s and another companies sub before the M22s and EP500. You are right, each to their own.

I understand the "Floorstander vs. Bookshelves and a sub" from the standpoint of room size or initial price. But there really are very, VERY few floorstanders in ANY price range that negate the need for a sub. With Bookshelves, you need a sub right away. But with floorstanders, you will still need a sub. Even Gene's setup, with his $15k speakers, needs extra subs to get an even bass response. For most music you might not need to go that low but occasionally you will. For movies, a sub is a must. Getting just floorstanders and never getting a sub is like buying a car that tops out a 45 miles per hour (you canucks will have to convert that for me). Sure, it will work in the city but when you want to go on the highway, well, it just isn't going to cut it.
