Hey all, I belong to a small church that needs new sound equipment, mixer, amp, monitors, wireless mics etc, and being the home theater nut I now have the responsibility to find this equipment and looing for advise. I have a 10 grand budget. We rent a hall so our equipment has to be on a wheeled rack so it can be setup and torn down quickly.
Hopefully Chris will post in here, he is the sound guy at my church (that I lured into an Axiom Lurker) and he probably has a good idea of the equipment you should be looking for.

ctk is his user name.
Thanks Robb, we are planning on getting this equipment asap. He can also look at my profile an email me direct as well.
Although not in your area, Yake Engineered Systems may be able to provide some advise. I sold them a fireplace, and they were great to deal with.
Thanks, Shawn from one hvac guy to another. Have you heard of S.I.G. Mechanical in T.O.?
I think so. Aren't they a heavy hitter with some pretty big commercial accounts?

I'm strictly residential. Installed for the first 10 years, and now estimating for the past 11. I've been here since 2001.
uyk,
I suggest you send Bren a PM.
Considering he is a sound and video professional not of the retail business nature, i'm sure he would have lots of proper suggestions.
Shawn,
I did tell you that i would likely be in Waterloo this fall did i not? About 85% sure at this point.

My father own S.I.G. and I thought I might know you from pre 2000. S.I.G. still does work in Kitchener/Waterloo. I sure miss Octoberfest there!

Our church used to also rent a hall for about the past 6 years. We had our entire setup mobile. The trick is to make evrything user friendly for setup and tear down. We had a bank of 8 amplifiers running our mains, and 4 sets of monitors, full band (including guitars, keyboards, drums, and other percussion) as well as wireless mics and the standard stage production stuff. Just before we moved to our new location, we had the whole thing so simple to setup I had two kids in grade 4 doing most of it for me.
What manufactures do you recommend for a mixer, wireless ear mic and speakers. Our hall is small maybe 60 people at a time, no band at this point but we want to buy equipment that is ready for a band.

Mackie for a board, Sennheiser has some goodwireless mics but make sure you rent a few over-the-ear mics before you buy.

OTE mics are very particular about the environment they are in and the equipment the signal is processed through. I use a DBX drive rack, graphic EQ, parametric EQ, and a compressor/gate to eliminate the feedback from stage monitors and get a clean sound from the mains. Some people need more, some need less, it just depends.

As far as speakers go, that depends on the venue size, type of music etc. I would suggest looking at some EV or JBL mains to start. They are versatile and can later be used as stage monitors.
