Continuing on my viewing of somewhat strange but I think amazing movies is this one with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. Amazingly acted, beautiful photography, great special effects and a beautiful score. It takes a bit of time to get going and jumps around a bit but I found it a very intriguing film. It involves three different but similar stories/characters over 1000 years. Warning this may not be for everyone.

We watched it just last week. I really couldn't get into it very well. My son thouhgt it was a great movie.

If you've seen (and liked) Aronofsky's other films (Pi, Requiem for a Dream), you'll want to see this one for sure.

I think Aronofsky may have been reaching a little too far with this one, but...well, I'll definitely watch it again.

I finally rented and watched it. I really liked it. Very different, very picturesque, and some of it was filmed in my home town

I would, however, only recommend this movie to artsy types. It's far from being a mainstream film.

Mainstream films... hmmm.... You mean like Balls of Fury?
Posted By: zhimbo Re: The Fountain - 06/04/07 02:06 AM
Ball of Fury and The Fountain would make a great double-bill!

Hmmm...I've said that any film with Christopher Walken in it is worth seeing...this may be a crucial test of that sentiment.

His "or as the Chinese say..." line made me laugh out loud, I'll 'fess up to that.

"Balls of Fury" looks awesome. The trailer had me laughing.

Of course, it doesn't take much to amuse me.

I'm so addicted to ping pong right now that I can't not see the movie. Probably not in the theaters though.

Ping pong is intense when you get into it. Played a ton in high school. Had a table set up on the back patio. My friend and I rigged up a couple lights to hang out there to play in the dark.

My dad used to beat me mercilessly at it. I remember the first game I actually had a chance to win I was stoked until I realized he was playing with his offhand. He still won. "Balls of Shame."

You see, that's exactly the point when you should have put a really stupid grin on your face, prompting you father to ask, "Why are you smiling?"

You:There's something I ought to tell you.
Dad: Tell me.
You: I'm not left/right-handed either.

And then you proceed to drill him in the ground. This, of course, takes a lot of training and patience, but it soooo would have been worth it.

And then you'd both sit down to watch Princess Bride together at laugh at the follies of life over a Coke.

That's classic!

I don't think my dad would have liked "Princess Bride" though.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: The Fountain - 06/05/07 04:22 AM
would have liked... Sorry about the "in the ground" comment!

Oops, poor context on my part. I meant "would have" as in "at that time".

Time to break out my old Strunk and White.

Pardon my error.

We watched the Fountain on HD/DVD last night. Another one of my intoxicated Amazon purchases.

I don’t know what to say.. I think I have a love/hate relationship with this movie. I was really into it and scratching my head at the same time.

I was not all that impressed with the HD transfer. The colors looked washed out and the sound wasn’t at the same level of the majority of HD/BR movies.

If those of you with HD/BR players didn't know it, Secrets of HT does a pretty good job revieing these things as they come out. I've found his reviews to be pretty acurate. http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/main.html
