This actualy happened to a girl at my work here in Des Moines. Luckily a cop just happened to be driving by and spotted her running after her car in the parking lot as the car-jacker tried to get away.

...................

BEWARE OF PAPER IN THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE

NEW WAY TO DO CAR JACKINGS

(NOT A JOKE)

Heads up everyone! Please, keep let your family and friends know about this..
You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside.
You start the engine and shift into Reverse.

When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view.
When you reach the back of your car, that is when the car jackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off.
They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.

And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car.
So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS

NOW BEING USED....

If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away.

Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you read this e-mail.

I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women.

A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

Please keep this going.

Thank you.

You know someone that this actually happened to? Urban Legends site Snopes.com says that it is very inprobable that it would actually work. See the link below...

The first thing I do when I read one of those is consult snopes. If only more people had that reaction...

After reading the Snopes report, I see where the error is: it's not "Leutenant" Bartholome of the Missouri HP, but Lieutenant Bartolome(also Tony, by some strange coincidence)of the Florida HP who knows all about this.

Yep, it was a slightly modified version. I'm sure some idiot got the idea from this story. Anyway, this gal at Principal noticed what appeared to be a ticket on her back passenger side widow. Of course she had already started her car when she noticed it. She got out, leaving her door open and walked around the car to check things out.

Some teen kid came out of nowhere and jumped in her car and took off. Luckily, it was right on Grand Ave and a cop was driving by and noticed her running after the punk. He basically blocked the kid from turning onto Grand Ave and arrested him on the spot.

Well, if I have a piece of paper stuck on my back window (or rear passenger side window) I'm going to remove it before trying to back out of a parking place. However, IF I've already started the car, I'll simply turn off the car first and take the keys with me while I do it.

No, it's here in Ohio too, only we're a bit more sophisticated. Here, it's a Glock 9mm.
