I have been looking at a new saddle for my Fuji Silhoutte that I just picked up. It's a 2005 model but I picked it up brand new just this past weekend for a steal. It was $680 MSRP and I got it for $280 plus tax. While the saddle on it isn't to bad I was wondering if any of you have any experiance with a Brooks saddle, mainly the B17 standard or the N (narrow) model.

No experience with the Brooks saddle. I was thinking of something like this. Only Real Men ride these... \:o \:D

Hi Wid. Although I don't have experience with a Brooks saddle, I haave an SDG saddle. It has made a big difference. After all, speed defies gravity. \:\) I ride a Rocky Mountain Vertex 10.

I ended up getting this Brooks saddle, I recieved it yesterday. If it rides half as good as it looks I will be happy. Going on a test ride today once it warms up to 40 or so.

I'd look at ordering a set of snow tires Rick ... you're gonna be needing them soon.

Just exactly what is a snowplow anyway? Seems like I remember seeing one once on the Discovery Channel, or maybe it was Popular Mechanics, I can't remember.

I have a B17, but haven't used it that much. My understanding is that it will take some time to break it in. Use a lot of proof ride to soften it up. Don't tighten it too much at first, you don't want to force the leather to stretch way too much.

I haven't used it because in the past, I've been unwilling to give up my bike weight to use it. But for I'll use it for my trailer pulling bike. However, I wouldn't let it get wet, hence I'm waiting for spring.

I will also consider chopping it to drop weight like this:

Sheldon Brown, nice reference. He's a freak but knows is fixes and singlespeeds.

I did 12 mile ride with it and I can't believe how comfy it is. The darn thing is so hard it sounds like you’re knocking on wood but it sure don’t ride bad.

I'm not worried about a few hundred grams. I sure as heck aint out to set any records believe me \:\) .
