Very interesting... Reminds me of another product... Forgot what it's called. That allows you to stream your videos through a server on the web and then allows computers, phones and game consoles (even the Wii) to play them by just going to some web page.
Provided you don't mind having everything played at a max of 480p...
They want you to pay for that? Well, assuming it works reliably, that's not too bad.
Skyhawk, I think you're referring to something called Orb:
http://www.orb.com/orb/Orb is supposed to transcode any media into something the Wii can play through a Flash applet, if I remember correctly.
Yes thanks unbrau! I think it's an interesting concept but totally useless if you want quality over ease of use.
I haven't tried Orb on my Wii. I tested it a bit between computers and found it was rather slow, so I uninstalled it.
I already had another way to get media from my computer onto my tv/stereo so I haven't look very hard for this kind of thing. There is a free one
Wii Media Center X that I look at once in a while, but development is not proceeding quickly, if at all.
At first I thought you might be talking about Topless Wii.
I was going to put a link here but
a) it's NSFW - Google it at home instead!
b) it's so popular that their server is down temporarily anyway (true!)
c) I've got a reputation to uphold -- ah hell, who am I kidding ...
Other media servers have started to officially support the Wii.
TVersity is one that looked at in the past for my Linktheatre. The software itself is nice and has an active development community but I want one that will transcode from FLAC (or any other lossless format) to WAV. The only one I've found to do that is
TwonkyVision but it's not free.
No, no.
Any Wii owners seen this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-UwIf this head-tracking technology makes its way into the Wii, I am SO getting one.
That is way too cool. I am going to have to download his software and see it for myself. I just happen to have the safety goggles already, just have to do the mod to them.
All the shooter games are going to take on a whole different perspective.
What do you think the chances are Sony gets in there and messes things up for Nintendo.
That is awesome, if wii adapted that there sales would go off the charts. If Sony and PS3 gets it, it may save them
It wouldn't take much to adapt it, a special mount for the Wiimote and some LED safety goggles as far as hardware goes. Whether or not the components inside the Wii have enough horsepower to make it work is another thing. I would bet it would need to be the next generation Wii, but the PS3 probably has the engine to make it work now.
Dang, that is pretty cool!
What?!?!? Someone found Sushi? J/K. Never even met the guy but this is how I'd envision him.
Cool tech. But I still like this better...

Wow wow wow wow.
I think chunk1978 said it best "OMGZ!!! that friken rules!!!!"
I hope that he figured out a way to patent this and that someone hired him. That's incredible.
I wonder if Nintendo can afford to build a better/HD Wii now?
From Afterdark"Nintendo also revealed that for the 9 month period ending December 31st 2007, profit was $2.43 billion USD, almost double its 2006 profit"
They could afford to do it before. It was just that they wanted a product that was easy on the pocketbook for the consumer. Add in all of the graphics and sounds engines to get HD gaming, and the Wii would have been priced up near the XBox/PS3, which was not their goal.
It does make you wonder what is next though... I just hope that they dont't call the second generation Wii the WiiII...
There's a new thread, Name the nex gen Wii. I put my vote in for WiiHD. Since Wii tends to go their own way and against the grain, I would bet they go for HD-DVD too, as it looks like BR is winning at least in the propaganda wars.
So far as my comment as to a better Wii, I was refering to some better quality parts. The drives are noisy and the video outputs have been failing on the earliest models, I have 2 friends that had to send their's in as the 480i output died.
[Knock on wood] Mine is still working but my extended warranty is almost up, so I figure it will die shortly after that.
Consoles killed the arcade and with the insane pricing and terrible reliability/constant updates required... looks like it'll end up being a murder/suicide.

If the Wii starts to die, just blow inside the cartridges and try it again!
A rubber pencil eraser worked a lot better...

Not better than Caig ProGold!
