Alan doesn't like the M50s much.

Doesn't seem to be a big fan of the 22's (pleasent bass, but not prowerful) either. I think it's safe to say the M3 is his fav. bookshelf speaker.

Now I am interested in a pair of M3's for my living room! Darn this forum.

No matter, it's still based on one mans opinion. His preference might not be yours or anyone else’s. I know I differ with him on some of his headphone choices.

I dont think Alan is saying he doesnt like the M50's or is not a fan of the M22's. In fact, he suggested the M22's for my space coupled with a sub, if I didnt want to go the route of floorstanding M60's and I am loving them.

Having A/B the 3's, 22's, 60's, 80's at Mojo's place I would say the detail and clarity of the M22's is noticeably better than the M3's. The bass is better with the M3's alone, but I really didnt think they came close to the detail of the M22's.

That being said, I want a pair of bookshelves for casual 2ch listening in the family room and dont want to put a sub in the room, so am going with M3's.

Which is why we offer auditions for those on the edge and need to hear before purchasing. Everyone has a sound they prefer.

I just read Alan's response/article and I liked the part "more apparent bass output" pertaining to the M3 vs M22; as the M22 and M3 have virtually the same response curve, it's just that dip after 100hz on the M3 that emphasizes the the bass while dropping the upper bass and above. I find my M22s to have plenty of bass on my old Sony Prologic receiver with the 'low boost' activated, but others might still find them lacking.

Yes, the impedance curves show that the M22 is in fact tuned a few Hz lower than the M3, hence the term "apparent" is the significant one.
