I just bought Diana Krall's "Live from Paris", based on recommendations on this site. What a voice. Great recording.

I would enjoy hearing other recommendations. Maybe 3 or 4 of your favorite albums, especially if they are recorded well. The best thing about my Axioms is that they get out of the way of the music so I can enjoy it for what it is.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Mariza, "Fado Em Mim": Brazillian folk music. 10th track "Por Ti!" is fantasic (just Mariza, a classic guitar, and string bass)

Patty Griffin, "A Kiss in Time": great folk/blues singer/songwriter

Nomad, "Nomad": well recorded Aboriginal music.

Enjoy

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Festivus

The gold standard in my collection is accoustic highway by Craig Chaquico. Midnight noon is more electric and excellent as well. Joyce Cooling is worth checking out, as well as Mindi Abair if you like saxaphone.
Of course Rumours should be in every collection and studied by every young musician.

I have the Patty Griffin Kiss in time set with the dvd and the audio on the dvd is so bad I checked my connectons the first time I put the disc in. Just wondering what your impressions are of the SQ on Kiss in time.

Great suggestions

I really don't listen to the DVD. Just watched it once when I first bought it.

Merry Christmas to you too, Brady. Some of my favorites which are both well-performed and well-recorded include The Planets , Rite of Spring , Roman Festivals and Swan Lake , which totals about $27 with free shipping.

John,

What would be a good recording of the Nutcracker? My wife wants a full version not highlights but I'm not sure which one would be good.

Yeah Cam, it's a shame to settle for just the Nutcracker "Suite" or even more extended excerpts when the complete ballet has such glorious music. My favorite is the vigorous recording by Gergiev . As usual, if you decide to order there, add two or three more discs if you want to get to the $25 for free shipping.

Incidentally, I just finished enjoying watching my DVD of the classic performance with Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland which appeared on TV around Christmas time for so many years.

Talking about video , have you ever seen Mozart's the Magic Flute by Ingmar Bergman? I watched it years ago but from what I can remember it's pretty well done (filming wise).

Thanks for the recommendation by the way. I'll look around for more cds to add to the order!

Sure, it was years ago that I saw that too. You don't necessarily have to look around very far if the links in the post immediately before yours would suit.
