don't know if we have any bowlers on here but I bowled a personal best 572 series tonite. Not bad for a guy with a 165 average. I could smell a 600- went into the 10th frame on 2 x's, hit the spot, and got a 9. \:\(
Just thought I'd share.

Sweet! I think we need to add a Lebowski-Fest bowling tournament to all future Axiomite gatherings.

I used to bowl well enough to enjoy it.

"You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me."

"Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon... with nail polish. These f**king amateurs..."

My high school offered bowling for P.E.. We walked across the street to the bowling alley and had class. Awesome.

It's been years since I've bowled. I'm with Tom, let's add bowling to the next get-together agenda.

Our high school was also blessed with a bowling alley across the street, and we also got to bowl a couple of times. That's the only time I've bowled, though, unless you count video game bowling (and why wouldn't you?).

Bowling is cool. Actually, it's un-cool, which is why it's so cool. I could easily spend hours in a bowling alley if the beer were better. ;\)
Posted By: St_PatGuy Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/27/08 06:17 AM
Because video game bowling doesn't feature the smell of cigarettes and old people.
Posted By: CV Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/27/08 06:28 AM
I wonder if I'll ever be causing that smell in a bowling alley.
Posted By: St_PatGuy Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/27/08 06:56 AM
Well, if you think about it, one is more preferable than the other.

Mmmmm....rental shoes! \:\)

I haven't bowled in years, though I used to like it quite a bit.

The unmistakeable smell of Lysol and fungus.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/27/08 04:30 PM
I stink at bowling (and it's not just the shoes!) Can I still come?
Posted By: St_PatGuy Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/27/08 04:33 PM
Absolutely!

You're not on my team, though.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/27/08 04:35 PM
How about a Northern California get-together (road trip for SoCalites, Oregonians, and Washintonians!) in June? I'll be out on business then. \:\)
Posted By: Ken.C Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/27/08 04:38 PM
Assuming I'm not out on business... sounds good to me!
Posted By: St_PatGuy Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/27/08 04:39 PM
Count me in!
Posted By: tomtuttle Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/27/08 05:06 PM
Definitely Maybe on the NCal thing. Split the difference with me and make it Eugene or Medford.

I bought my own shoes.

You're entering a world of pain.

Clown shoes don't count.

I once bowled a 572 series.

It took me four games though!

STFU Donny!
Posted By: Ray3 Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/27/08 10:45 PM
CONGRATS on the series!!!

Just a comment in passing from a smelly old person - the whole Wii bowling thing is turning into a bit of an interesting phenomenon with us.

We have had several friends over for bowling night this winter and need to use guns several times to get them to leave - they wanted to keep bowling.

It is a lot of fun, you can control the noise and nobody smells like cigarettes. Starting to see articles about old folks homes having bowling leagues.

I have no idea where I am going with this, just thought I'd share. BTW - that West Coast GTG sounds pretty good. Can you move it a little closer to Rochester; say....Buffalo?
Posted By: tomtuttle Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/28/08 12:52 AM
Ray, what I hear you saying is...

"All of you guys are welcome to come to my house for Wii bowling"

Cool! Thanks! See you soon!

Right on - can't wait to go to Ray's! That's so close to here! And I've tried Wii Bowling - so much fun! Especially on the big ole home theater - the echo of the bowling balls in the other lanes is very cool!

Growing up as a kid I was always in leagues and went to the state tournements often. Back then I always used Columbia 300 balls.

After college I got involved in many leagues with fellow workers and friends, and have been a big fan of Hammer Bowling balls.

It has been a few years since I dusted off my hammer and hit the lanes, but my average was a little under 220, and I have had 2 300 games in my lifetime.

So, how big are your balls these days, Randy?

Amie - you can always come over for some bowling and beer!

If you haven't done so yet, [url=http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10830&cs_id=1083001&p_id=3490&seq=1&format=2]monoprice sells a set of component cables[url] to replace the composite cables that came with the console. Makes a noticeable difference in the "pop" and clarity.

BTW - I found out that those folks you see beside you (and behind you if you drop your ball) include the Miis from your Mii plaza.

Holy crap randy- your like the robobowler! I have an Ebonite that I got cheap on closeout to augment my columbia yellow dot. They tell me it was the cat's fur in 1978, still has a place in the bag though.
I'm thinking sirquack's place would an excellent midwest region gtg location. I'm spoiled on the smell front- the town bowling center (all 4 lanes of it) does not allow smoking or alcohol. After going to a few tournaments elsewhere, I'm not sure I could stand it at some of those places. As for old people... my doubles partner at last year's city tournament was 87, bowled a 200 something iirc. He cut back to 2 leages this year.

I may have to get a wii one of these days.

OK, all of us together against Randy..... \:\)
Posted By: Zarak Re: bowled a 572 series tonite! - 02/28/08 01:32 PM
I vote for Ray's place. I can make it up there in 5 hours or so.

I heard Mark was an expert candle stick bowler. \:\)

Hey Randy I'm impressed. 220 average is smokin hot. I used to avg about 165 each time I played. Of course it was the old "line it up and chuck it" style...none of that fancy spin stuff. ;\)

It's true. (please insert your own ball-size joke here).

Candle Stick bowling is fun, got a chance to try it about 13yrs ago when I visited Boston and Worcester.
