Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 Trailer

I have to say I'm very excited. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is still one of the most fun Xbox Live Arcade games, and the colors are very beautiful on a nice display. Many people have commented on how gorgeous it looks. Up to four players on the sequel will be interesting. Here's hoping it plays as well as the first one. I haven't gotten all of the achievements for many games, but I did it for the first Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, despite some of them providing some intense resistance. If you haven't played the first one, I highly recommend it, and it's rewarding to play it until you're good. Of course, then you go watch videos of the REAL masters playing it, and you hang your head in shame.

Looks pretty cool!

I bought the first one and found it pretty challenging. I stopped playing sometime after I got a high score of 940K and then died... I Was so mad I didn't get that 1 million acheivement! Best I could do after that was around 600k.

I will most likely be buying this one

The console updates, games, arcade games, and the ability to stream netflix movies straight from your netflix account looks really cool!

Looks like Grid Wars 2.

Yes, but that's free.

I'm also looking forward to the new Portal game. I wonder what new ideas they'll have.
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 07/31/08 06:05 AM
Okay, so I'm having fun with Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2. There are now 6 game modes to be frustrated with instead of just one, so THAT'S GREAT. I've unlocked all of the modes, but actually getting all of the achievements is going to be hard. So far I only have two. But yeah, death is so cruel, and it makes me curse and want to throw the controller every time. I'll have to have people over for multiplayer.

That looks like a fun game. Wish they made it for the PS3. I looked for something similar and found one called.

Super Stardust HD

Basically a modernized version of old school Asteroids with 360' weapon control independent from the flight controls. Different weapons for different rock types and an ever increasing hectic pace, which is exactly what made the old school games so addictive.

Played the free demo for an hour last night and decided I need to buy the full game and at $8.00, you can't go wrong.

I bought that game and agree that it's very fun. I guess it's actually a remake of an old Amiga game. I didn't get very good at it. In fact, my mom got better at it than I did. I didn't have the patience.
Posted By: thefwam Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 07/31/08 03:52 PM
ditto to both. I've been enjoying Super Stardust HD for a while, and I excitedly unlocked three of the modes on Geometry Wars 2 last night. It's a great twist on the old one, and while some people knock it for being so different, I am glad for that, because it keeps the old one fun as well. Thumbs up!

Geometry Wars 1 was the first thing I ever downloaded on my 360 when I originally got it. I instantly became obsessed and wasted a fair amount of time blasting gobs of gorgeous colors across the screen. Once I finally past the 1 million mark, I decided to give my thumbs a rest. A rest that lasted a few years.

I downloaded the demo to the second one last night and enjoyed the small amount of play-time they teased me with. Was interesting to find out that your gun no longer upgrades and your multiplier stays with you even when you die.

Still debating whether to buy the full version but it seems that you all feel it's worth it. Heck, it might be worth it for the multiplayer alone. Speaking of which, you can't play over Live can you?
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 07/31/08 06:07 PM
I don't have time to turn on my system right now, but the website for the game only mentions offline multiplayer, so I assume that's correct.
Posted By: thefwam Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 07/31/08 06:20 PM
The review I read lamented that it didn't have multiplayer over live, which is a sad omission. I suppose (and hope) that it can be patched by an update, but who knows.
Posted By: ptRyno Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 07/31/08 06:38 PM
yeah, I thought that was very odd to leave out Live support. Ah well, guess I'll actually have to see the people I play with, bummer.
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/01/08 03:57 AM
That many objects onscreen at that speed might be a tricky thing to do over Live?
Posted By: terzaghi Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/01/08 12:15 PM
Looking forward to the hyper galaga game that is comming to XBL ( or whatever it is called.)

Looks neat.

I am going to probably buy geo wars 2 in the next couple fo days when I get around to it.
Posted By: ptRyno Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/01/08 03:16 PM
Could very well be. Any lag at all would completely ruin the experience. Although there are more complicate games that are live enabled, not many rely on timing as much as this would.

Well, I'm up to 100 of the 200 gamerscore points. All of the remaining achievements are going to take some real effort. I hate you, Geometry Wars!

Midlife crisis time. Are you going to buy a Mountain Dew Slurpee now or a bag of Fritos?
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/03/08 06:09 AM
I had a bag of Fritos earlier!

Is this really the form my midlife crisis is taking?
Posted By: pmbuko Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/03/08 06:10 AM
Eat more fritos and you will attain your mutant stomach-dom before too long.
Posted By: ptRyno Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/03/08 03:44 PM
wow, the multiplayer on this bad boy is an absolute blast. Friends of mine who hated the first one now love this one and are somewhat good at it. I think I'll go buy that bag of chili cheese fritos and pork rinds this afternoon. Putting my stomach through the gauntlet never felt so good.
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/03/08 06:52 PM
Sure, rub it in that you have friends.
Posted By: ptRyno Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/03/08 08:41 PM
there was a 2 for 1 on craigslist and thought, aw what the heck
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/03/08 08:55 PM
Spiffy!

How much does one cost?
Posted By: terzaghi Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/03/08 09:38 PM
I think I like the first one better, the background it better...
Played the mP demo for a bit and seemed ok. I prolly won't be buying it tho.

Anyone played the first one in the PC release? I saw it on Steam today for practically nothing and was wondering if it was worth the same amount...
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/03/08 11:41 PM
At $3.95 I decided to try it myself on the PC. \:\) Using a wired 360 controller, it's pretty much exactly the same as the Xbox 360 version, albeit not as impressive on this monitor as on my big TV. I'd say it's certainly worth buying, although maybe another control scheme wouldn't be as intuitive.

I bought it through MSN Games, though, as it said to download there for the Vista version. I guess the version on Steam is the XP version.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/04/08 12:40 AM
Well, I've got an overpriced 360 controller coming so I can play GRID, so I might as well give it a shot.

Now I just have to decide whether to get GRID separately or free with a new video card...
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/04/08 12:47 AM
\:D What video cards are you eyeing?
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/04/08 12:49 AM
4850 or 4870. I don't think I can rationalize the 4870, but I don't much like the companies that Newegg is bundling GRID with on the 4850s.
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/04/08 12:51 AM
Sounds like you rationalized it just fine! Go for it!
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/04/08 02:43 AM
Eh, I think all the regulars around here know how bad I am about making purchases, so I don't think I'll be doing the 4870. I'm kinda hoping that Newegg moves the Grid promo to a different card tomorrow.
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/04/08 02:52 AM
Good luck.

Also, I should have warned you that Geometry Wars is very cruel. It's the game I've cursed the most at while playing. It's fun and cool, but it also makes you hate your mother for bringing you into the same world as Geometry Wars. Of course, this could just be because I'm not as insanely gifted at the game as the people posting the high scores. Most people, however, like me, have to really struggle to get very far in the game.
Posted By: ptRyno Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/05/08 01:09 AM
so has anyone even come close to beating the sequence mode. I have officially come to the conclusion that it's humanly impossible.
Posted By: CV Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/05/08 03:27 AM
I haven't been close. I've only played that mode three times so far, but even knowing there's room for improvement, I'm not optimistic.
Posted By: thefwam Re: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - 08/05/08 04:33 AM
I got to the last row a couple of times...but that was by bombing my way through. It gets so ridiculously hard!

Glad we're talking about games. \:o

You can never be sure around here, though.
