My sister is looking at going with one of these for DVD rentals, but is trying to figure out where the closest hubs are to fator in shipping time. She lives in Dubuque, Iowa so I told her that I thought that the closest Netflix hub is here in Des Moines, but she was saying that it usually takes 3 days to get mail from Des Moines (seems a little long to me), but I have no clue about other Netflix hubs or any of the Blockbuster hubs.
Anyone know where I could find a list?
I did a quick search for you Nick and I couldn't find anything. I'm sure if you gave them a call they would let you know, they did for me.
FWIW, I live 50 miles from my nearest hub, Richmond, and >90% of my Netflix traffic is 1-day. I drop a movie in the mailbox Thursday, it arrives Friday, they ship one to me that arrives Saturday. Amazing. I know that regular mail would not be able to replicate this - no way I could mail a letter to a friend and have him write one back to me like that. It'd take a week.
Netflix has some kind of technological allegiance with the USPS that makes their movies travel faster. I remember reading about how Netflix worked with the USPS on equipment design to handle the packets.

Yeah, Des Moines to Dubuque is 200 miles. I've had mail get to Des Moines in 1 day before (because a lot of the mail in Iowa gets sent here for routing anyway if it isn't "local"). Going back the other way usually takes another day or so because their local post office is slow.
I'll see if I can get a phone number and call each of them.
Well, I was going to contact Netflix, but they wanted my customer number (and I haven't been a customer for over 9 months), and BlockBuster only seemed to offer an online form that maybe someday will get answered...
I know before Des MOines had their location, I used to get stuff in 1-2 days from Minneapolis I believe. Heck, I just ordered some new eyepieces for my telescope and they came out of Tulsa, got them in 2 days USPS standard priority.
