I want to compress all my FLAC files to MP3 for use in my iPod.

Is there a software out there that I could just point it to the folder I have all the FLAC files in and the software will compress them?

It doesn't matter to me if it costs or if it's freeware.

foobar2000 can do it. It's free. This link describes the process.

It's freeware, but since it doesn't matter to you, please send me 5 bucks.

There's a script called flac2mp3 that I used.

The pay version of MediaMonkey will do the conversion on-the-fly; you just keep the library of FLAC files and it converts them to MP3's when you sync the portable device. Or so I'm told. Might not work with that proprietary Apple stuff, though.

I have Foobar already, I'll give that a try. I had no idea it could batch convert, but I'm not surprised. It has quite a few interesting features.

I have to re-rip a few CD's with screwed up tags that Foobar can't fix first.

:::sigh::: I know you're not far from Microsoft HQ, but that bit of FUD is quite stale.

Mediamonkey works with iTunes and iPods, Peter? Sure, iPods'll play MP3s just fine, but...

Hey, what do I know?

How do you load an iPod from Windows without iTunes?

ok, so my criticism was misdirected. I was referring to the the iPod's ability to play back the results of the conversion process, not the software's ability to put files onto the iPod. I'm confident mdrew knows that he'll need to use iTunes to load music onto the iPod.

Hu?? What are guys talking about? I have iTunes. I hate it, as the damn thing continues to tell me to install Safari and it wants to take control of my PC.

OK, so I tried to do the mass conversion with FooBar last night. Stupid thing had a window up saying it could not convert some 8000 songs. Major errors. I'm surfing around trying to find out how exactly to set up this program for converting, but haven’t had a lot of luck. The Link above that Peter provided is for older versions of FooBar.

This freeware stuff is pretty cool...but it sure comes with headaches. It isn't for the PC challenged folks like me.

You can tell Apple Software Update not to bug you about Safari. There's a menu item that says "ignore update" or "don't pester me about this update" or something like that.

So, iTunes doesn't support FLAC natively, right?
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Batch ripping software? - 01/27/09 07:01 PM
That is correct.

Just funny that an Apple user would attribute Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt to Microsoft. MS learned it from IBM and went a step further. Apple learned it from MS and took it a step further. "O NoEz!!1! PCz R teH b0r1nG && Cr@sH A L0T!"

Oh god, not advertising! Why doesn't Apple tell the truth? Everyone else does!

I was thinking more of the pot calling the kettle black.

Whoever you think is wearing the white hats is "advertising" and whoever you see as wearing the black hats is "fearmongering?" I guess partisanship is alive and well everywhere.

I keep my hats gray these days.

Mine's the shiny side of the tin foil.

If you take an extra long length of foil and fold it in half, dull side in, you get two shiny surfaces for double efficacy.

Reflects my thought waves back in though... and those are things you don't want reflecting around too much. Standing waves in brain activity are bad.

What sort of errors?

Like a retard I didn't copy the text.

I was able to convert them all, well most of them anyway.

I think I'm going to try DBPoweramp next. I might as well seeing how I've got four or five music programs loaded already....
