Axiom Home Page
I ran across this DIY theater from AVS's main page, which is usually just a bunch of links from Electronic House... Any way, I came across one and as I saw the pictures, I noticed Axiom Q series speakers in the pictures, and sure enough, the specs show that it features:
M3 fronts
VP100 center
QS4 surrounds

For many of us, those are the "low end" if there is such a thing, for Axiom speakers, but none-the-less, they are Axioms.

DIY Theater
Strange that the budget was $35,000.00 and he didn't invest much of that on the speakers. Easily should have gone to the Epic80 HT setup.
Nice looking theater. It's funny because I automatically expect some fancy speakers to go with the rest of it, or at least top-of-the-line Axioms. Yeah, the M3s may not be what we'd expect, but you still get very nice fidelity from them.
$35000 ain't all that much when you're talking renovations, is it?

Man, if I had that kind of money for renovations, I'd be set.
$35000 can do alot especially as a DIYer.

Looks like he spent his budget on the visuals and not as much as he should have for the audio portion of a theater of that size.
Actually the article states that he didn't have a budget and spent as he went along.
Also brought in a Pro to help with wall dressings and I'm surprised that the Pro didn't steer him towards something that would be more enveloping. I have no experience at all with this but I would think a lot of sound absorbtion material in a large room would take an effect on small speakers.

Too bad he didn't stop in here. I'm sure you guys could have talked him into an Epic 80-800x2 system. Or at least .....................
$35000 is a lot of jing, I'll assume that's US $$ too. Imo, he should have put another $2-3g into the sound. I don't know, it's a really beautiful theatre but $35g?? I'm sure I could build this for close to half that myself (:puffs out chest:)
Yep, and with your very impressive sound effect impressions you wouldn't even need to spend a dime on a sound system Adrian ... money in the bank! \:D
I obviously missed the part about a pro coming in to help, during my quick read. To me it shouldn't be listed as a DIY Theater if any professional help is used in the finishing etc. I can give some leeway with electrical and drywall finishing, but to me other than that it isn't DIY.
I've seen others with their theaters on the Electronic House web site that show budgets of $75,000 USD and I look at their equipment and set up and say to myself, I could do a LOT more with $75,000... I could build the same theater, with just as good of gear, and still have money left over to trade in a vehicle or two for something newer, and still have money left over to go our for a nice dinner...

You'd renovate your theater so it had 4 ep800s and M80s all the way around? All in a custom wood finish of course.
I am thinking 7 M80s and 7 EP800s, No such thing as over kill is there?
With a 35k budget I Definately would have purchased axioms best.... At least a 7.2 epic 80/500 set up.

To continue this hijack, has anyone TALKED to Dennis recently? He had some ticker problems last I heard, but was on the mend.

Psst.. I POSTED in that thread.

I didn't re-read it to see if you had posted, which is why I was asking if you missed the thread. \:\)

I think Dennis has more of a life than the rest of us and doesn't spend as much time around forums of any sort like we do, last post from him on av123 was shortly after he bought his in 05

The least he can do is stop in every once in a while. The nerve of some people.
